Who are you? Episode 17 *Final*
ay_link May 1st, 2008

Woke up at 6:35am, about close to 1hr late *sigh*, I didn’t hear the alarm, so, err, lol. Thank goodness the drama was still airing in Korea, which is around 10:45pm Korea Time by the time I got the streaming to work. It was the final goodbye scene and so I watched. It picks up from there, and within a few minutes, I was tearing up. What a sad and beautiful moment. The moment where we all, human beings, at some point in our life, will encounter. The lost of a loved one, saying the final farewell, how hard it must be.
Before I post 28 screencaps (twice as I usually do in the previous episodes), I must say, the final episode is beyond amazing. I was totally satisfied, and I haven’t felt this way about kdrama endings in such a long longggg time. This series has succeeded pass beyond my expectation. Bravo!
Totally will recommend this drama to all of my family and friends. One of the best dramas of 2008 so far.
The episode starts off with Seung Hyo, preparing for his final departure to go back to New York, where he came from, after that termination letter. But on second thought, he prepared his resignation letter instead, and chose to stay in Korea before deciding to go back to the States. Lawyer Kwon questions his decision, but he said it’s based on personal reason.
After thinking about it, he finally steps in to his biological father’s gym…

Wishing him to live healthily for a long, long time, and suggesting to him to tell his half-brother, Ho Joong to surrender himself to the police.
One other thing I love about this drama is that the finale managed to tighten up loose ends and even though it doesn’t tell us in great details about how those secondary characters will live on, but at least, it makes sense. And plus, secondary characters are supposed to be ’supporting’ characters. They don’t need to be elaborated too much if the main characters have achieved their destination.
Coming back home, he said to his two turtles, Soccer Ball and Miracle that he’ll bring them to the ocean.
Then a second later, he collapses and we see Mr. Reaper standing from afar.
Seung Hyo is back to his coma state, at the hospital.
The 49 days granted by the Reaper to Il Gun was intended for second changes - both to Il Gun and Seung Hyo. For Il Gun to finish up what he needs to do with his daughter, and for Seung Hyo, it’s his chance to be ‘born again’.
Young In rushes to the hospital, and in tears she waited outside, crying. While her father, suddenly approaches her and sings a song to her… a song where he used to sing when Young In’s mom was in coma also.

This scene where she finally can see his dad is simply beautiful, in which of course, around this time, my tears rolled out again, and again. This beautiful reunion and touching moment… very rare in kdramas, and I think this is the first drama I cried so much.
Days gone by, we see how Young In’s daily visits, and talking to the unconscious Seung Hyo.

And by the time Seung Hyo finally awakens, maybe because his time is up or because… he said,
Il Gun: What about our Young In? What about my daughter? What will happen to her if I leave and you’re like this? Huh, you bad guy? I’ll give her to you. I will give my daughter to you. So wake up!
Then a few seconds later, Seung Hyo wakes up. Young In was like, “Dad… he’s awake. He’s awake!”
But then she got all worried because of the no-response from Seung Hyo.
Young In: Ahjussi… Ahjussi…? Do you know me? Can you recognize me?
Do you know who I am?
Seung Hyo: ….
Young In: You don’t know? You don’t know who I am? That can’t be, right? You know who I am, right?

I really like this cap above. Hehe.. their expressions are priceless.
Young In with her so-worried look, looking at her dad, half-sobbing.

Seung Hyo: Hey, Soccer Ball. You sure do talk a lot… it makes my head hurt.
Young In: Ahjussi…
Il Gun: Hey, Cha Seung Hyo…
Then the three of them are in the car… Seung Hyo is driving, to the orphanage.

Silence in the car. Noone is saying a word… it’s like they all know, this is it. The time is up.
The farewell destination.

Il Gun is making sure he said all what he wanted to say to Seung Hyo, basically to take good care of his daughter. To always love her and be with her, and take care of one another. Meanwhile, Seung Hyo formally and obediently responds, “Yes” to all of his advice. And finally, after Il Gun says his thank-yous, Seung Hyo says, “Thank you, too, Father.” *awwww*
Then, under Il Gun’s instruction, they go to this place and dig something that Il Gun buried 10 years ago.
It’s a time capsule.

I love how it’s in two different colors, baby blue and pink. It’s so… gender-coded. Hehe.
Young In picks up the pink one, which she wrote herself 10 years ago. Then Seung Hyo’s turn to read the blue one.
Then it’s time for the final farewell….

Kang Nam Gil is such a great veteran actor. I love all his scenes in this series.

OMG… what a sad, sad scene.
Young In screams while sobbing, “Dad… dad!”
And thank God she’s not alone. She has Seung Hyo beside her, and as expected, he puts his arm around her and protects her. I luv it! Yoon Kye Sang and Ara did a fantastic one in this scene.

And the way he brings himself closer to her and comforting her… it’s just beautiful! <3

It makes me silently hope and pray, that if I were in Young In’s shoes, I would have someone next to me.. someone dearest to me… just like Young In has Seung Hyo. =)

The day after, it shows how Jae Ha (in his F45 Infinity — what a cool car! lol) turns himself in.
He parks and walks in to a police station.
And Young In, stops by Young Ae’s very comfy store. Young Ae looks so happy to see her, and they both talk. Young In gives her the ring, from her dad, as a sign that she, now, is approved of the relationship.
In which Young Ae remembers this night… (apparently she can see Il Gun also)

They’re having a date and she looks so pretty and so happy.
They laugh and laugh and having a good time until Il Gun bids her farewell.
The last scene…

Seung Hyo is sitting down, waiting for Young In. And he talks Il Gun silently.
Since what he said is so beautiful, I’d have to paste here what Sarah has translated.
Seung Hyo: Thank you for breathing fresh air into my dried-up, dying life.
Thank you for leading me to realize that the pain of my hardened, always angry heart was actually a love toward the world. I will love diligently — the world, myself, your daughter.
I might be old, being eleven years older than her…
but I’ll do my best to love her enough for both you and me.
I won’t push it aside for later, I’ll love her today.
Because, of the remaining days of my life, today is the youngest.
OMG, what a beautiful dialogue.
He is now the man deeply and madly in love with our Young In.
Il Gun can rest peacefully knowing this, and he won’t have to worry for her daughter anymore.

Not long after, Young In comes home with an ice-cream on her right hand, looking very surprise to see him there. Thrilled and happy to see him, in which Seung Hyo pretends to be mad and not amused (”Hey you. Don’t you know I hate waiting!”), she then says,
Young In: Have you been waiting long? How long have you been waiting? Hey… sorry~ =D
(then she quickly changes her mind)
No. What’s wrong with waiting for the person you love?
You have nothing to do anyway…

No response from Seung Hyo. She takes another ice-cream bite, which left a mark on her lips.
Seung Hyo wipes it lovingly with that gentle eyes, and strokes her hair out of her face.
And he says:
Seung Hyo: Hey, Soccer Ball. I love you.
I love you even more in the future.

Together now… AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!
Hehehehehehe…
I went crazy and took about 1000+ pictures! Haha.. so you can imagine how the sorting went so quickly.
Had to eliminate tons of them to end up with these 28 ones.
And for the last one, a very pretty one ^_^
