On Dec 12 ‘2007, Yovie Widianto came back with his newest album titled “The Special One”. In this 5th album, Yovie is still with the Nuno band, but this time, they only use “Nuno” (instead of “The Nuno”), thus become “Yovie & Nuno”. With this change of name, the band members have changed as Gail (vocal), Ersta (bass) and Rere (drum) officially quit the band. Now, Nuno consists of Dudi (vocal), Diat (guitar) and Dikta (vocal). Dikta joined the band mid of last year, and this 22yr old guy used to be in one of those indie bands in Jakarta.
Like a chef, Yovie has his own recipe of how he produces his music. The secret is in the way he composes his work, where harmony and rhythm became the most important elements. And the music arrangement is built uniquely to bring the light and communicative impact. There are 11 songs in this album each with different themes and romantic lyrics.
The song “Guarding Heart” (Menjaga Hati) which is the first hit single, we can enjoy the beautiful and catchy music. The harmony of each vocal blends so well with Dudi, who has lower local, in harmony with Dikta, who has more tenor vocal range. This song tells the faithfulness of a lover for his beloved one.
Another romantic song, “Janji Suci” (Holy Promise) has the beautiful melodic piano solo and string. “I want to to marry you… for the first and the last, one thing my heart knows for sure, I’d be the best for you…” From this lyric is how Yovie got inspired to give the album title, “The Special One.” We can also enjoy more ballads like “Dia Milikku” (She’s mine) and “Seperti Bintang” (Like a star)
As we can see, Yovie’s music is inspired from the 80s rock like Toto and Phil Collins. The harmony from that era is what influenced him in composing “Sejuta Cinta” (A thousand love). It’s like Toto meets John Mayer, but of course with Yovie’s own music legacy.
Yovie (39) is known as the founder of the famous band Kahitna and also one of the members of the Latin-Jazz band, Indonesia 6. He founded The Indonesia Harmony Orchestra where he works as the producer and conductor. He has also succeeded in making some of Indonesia’s well-known band artists like The Groove, Rio Febrian, Audy, and Glen Fredly’s album also produced by Yovie. His life motto is “keep the good music & keet the spirit high.”
