Spotlight: an overview

Son Ye Jin is the main reason, and could be the only reason of why I’ve been waiting for “Spotlight” since late last year. And yet, though the series that premiered yesterday couldn’t hold people’s interests (thus, the low ratings for its 1st episode — only around 6% reported by TNS Media), I was so excited to see Son Ye Jin back in TV drama again. Especially after her previous work, “Alone in love” was excellent.

However, I’m still not sure if Spotlight has what it takes to boost its ratings next week, now that On Air has come to an end. Especially when we’ll have SBS Iljimae with strong casts behind us (fans can’t wait to see Lee Jun Ki back on small screen again, though his latest drama ended not too long ago)

Spotlight, has a different feeling than when On Air was first airing. But with On Air, they had strong cameos for their premiere, so people were so looking forward to it. However, Spotlight’s first few minutes were really interesting. It was nothing like All About Eve, though it brings back so many memories.

The episode opens up with a couple on the rooftop, before the 9 o’clock evening news. They look like a husband and wife from the way she calls her husband. The guy (he’s currently in another drama, “Happiness” which has completely different role), I didn’t catch his name in here but he’s the person in charge of the console in the control room.  The wife slapped him by saying, “How could you…!?”  Then she left after hearing him saying, “Honey, I’m sorry. Please give me another chance.”
Half-crying, as she collects herself together, she walks pass through a crowd, in which among them are SS501, the famous boyband group (this is their cameo. a bit lame, but whatever.), she’s getting ready to start the 9 o’clock news.

Meanwhile, outside the GBS station, Seo Woo Jin (Son Ye Jin), a rookie reporter, who apparently just about to have her first offset broadcasting news, is on standby outside an apartment place surrounded by policemen and reporters. Obviously she’s in-charge of delivering the news as a part of the 9 o’clock news.

This scene is pretty cute. She’s rehearsing by herself, and doing that mouth exercise to make sure she won’t get tongue-tied. Hehe.

Then the story afterwards is just getting work up around a special case, with Woo Jin trying to get firsthand on the news, with the help of a friend. It’s like getting a broadcasting theme mix with mob storyline in it.
And to cut the story short, I’ll jump ahead to the scene where they finally introduce our lead actor, Oh Tae Suk (played by Ji Jin Hee).  He didn’t appear until about 20 mins before the show ends. Pity.

And oh, I just thought this cap is really funny. LOL.

He was trying to tape a news, by the beach that seems to be very contaminated with tons of trash floating in it. Haha.. my gosh, his hair is horribleeeee!  I mean, seriously. I used to think he’s pretty hot. But errr, what happened to him now???

O well, I tried watching episode 2, just to give it another try, but it didn’t work.
Ended up skipping tons of scene and so I didn’t take caps at all.

But for Son Ye Jin, I think I’m gonna stick through it and watch this drama.

Hopefully the ratings will go up a bit better than 6% next week!
