La Dolce Vita Episode 7
ay_link May 24th, 2008

The more I see it, the more I admire Oh Yeon Soo’s beauty and that new short hairstyle she had for this drama. I’ve been following her dramas for the past years, and right from the start, I fell in love with her acting.
She’s really a great actress, especially with this kind of role. I feel like I’m being absorbed in the story and her character, Hye Jin, from a woman’s point of view. Though I’m not married yet, it gave me something to think about marriage life and living with a spouse like Dong Won must’ve been such a stressful thing for any married woman.
Episode 7 shows us more about Hye Jin and Joon Soo’s relationship, and in this episode, we got to see more about Detective Park and his past.
As usual, we got the recaps of the previous episodes. They showed the part of Seung Gu almost falling off the cliff. Before he fell, Seung Gu told Joon Soo, “If you let my hand go, you’ll become Kang Seong Gu!” He was actually provocating Joon Soo to the point that I think he probably wanted to kill himself, not holding back to save his dear life. Oh my… what a complicated man. I really don’t know if I liked Seong Gu or not, but I’ll look forward to this Wednesday with his newest drama on KBS2, “Women In The Sun” (WITS)
OK, let’s begin with Episode 7…
It starts off with Hye Jin at home, walking towards the kitchen with a pile of clothes. The housemaid was washing dishes, and told her to let her do the laundry. But Hye Jin insisted.
After she dumped the laundry, she noticed a few bottles of soju hidden behind the laundry rack, and she got suspicious of the housemaid.

Hye Jin: Ahjumma, were you drinking these?
*Ahjumma startled and tried to cover up*
Ahjumma: N-nooo…
Hye Jin: Don’t do it again next time.
*Ahjumma keeps on denying it*Hye Jin: And… why was the dog in the bathroom?
Ahjumma: Well… it went up to the room, I dunno what its doing there…
But Hye Jin didn’t buy her crap. Seriously, this ahjumma needs to be fired soon!
Then she went up to the room, and stared at herself in the mirror…

She kept on thinking about Joon Soo and the night before when he stalked her… remembering the time when Joon Soo was there watching her while she was picking up her girls, and when Joon Soo stalked her to the restaurant too. Seems like she misses him and can’t help herself not to think about him.
At the restaurant, she got a prank call, which I don’t know if it was Joon Soo or not (they didn’t bring this up again somehow). Then she was driving home with the girls, and a motorcycle went pass by her car. At first her girls thought it was the same person, and she got all startled for a bit before realizing it wasn’t Joon Soo.
At home, after she tucked the girls in their bed (they were sleeping with Bok Soon-ee in the midst of them again), she went down and remembering that night in Japan… them holding hands, their first hug, their first kiss… with the fireworks…

(they have this great instrumental playing in this scene… before Hye Jin’s home phone rang)
Dong Won: It’s me.
Are the kids asleep?
Hye Jin: They just did.
Dong Won: Don’t wait up, go to sleep first.
Apparently, Dong Won was at Da Ae’s place when he called Hye Jin. But Da Ae aren’t happy at all with his presence. So she went outside, avoiding him. Good for Da Ae, and I take this as they’re not sleeping together for the night.

So the next morning, when Dong Won was about to go to work (he slept over), inside the garage, he found Da Ae sleeping in her car. He knocked on the window, but Da Ae ignored him and covering her face with her hood. lol.
Dong Won’s at work… (I just had to post this cap since he looks good in black keke..)

He got a call from Na Ri, and apparently Hye Jin was supposed to pick the girls but she hasn’t showed up yet. So Dong Won went home, met the ahjumma and went upstairs to find his sleeping wife.
It took him a while to realize that her wife is sick. Duh~

He got all surprised and called the ahjumma.
Then the scene went to Da Ae at Starlett with Byuk Ja.
Da Ae got the cold and kept on blowing her nose… must be because of sleeping in the car the whole night last night. Byuk Ja told her why can’t she just accept Joon Soo? Joon Soo likes her, so she should just be with him instead. Then suddenly, Joon Soo showed up at the door.
They went out for a drive and arrived at the luxury penthouse.

I love how there’s a huge frame on the wall right after they got off the elevator. Haha… talk about narcism!
Seems to be that it was Da Ae’s first time in Seong Gu’s apartment (which she thought it was Joon Soo’s)

Da Ae: Really?
Tell me the truth…. what’s going on?
How did it happen??
Yup, that was her expression when Joon Soo told her that Seong Gu went missing and there was no news about his whereabout. Da Ae laughed at it first because it suddenly went to her that it could’ve been the truth. That Seong Gu must’ve been dead by now…
Then we arrived at the hospital, where Hye Jin and Dong Won were.

As soon as she opened her eyes, Dong Won asked her if she’s okay. This husband of hers looks really concerned of her and tried to cheer her up. But Hye Jin didn’t buy it and told him to go. Dong Won was about to touch her but hesistated. He told her to get some rest and he’d come back later with the kids.
Then we’re back at Joon Soo’s place. He gave her a brown briefcase to Da Ae.
It’s Seong Gu. Joon Soo told her to take it, and that he wanted to take a shower.
Before he went in to his room, Da Ae asked him if Seong Gu died. But Joon Soo said he doesn’t know either. “You really don’t know?” Da Ae pressured him to tell the truth. “Then tell me the truth, what’s the meaning of all this? (what do you know?)

But Joon Soo didn’t say a word and he gave her this look.
At night, Hye Jin woke up to see her husband sleeping on the sofa, covered by his own jacket.
Then she remembered that night at the hotel, many many years ago.

They were having a couple’s conversation, and Dong Won asked her what type of man she liked, and what she liked about him, etc. Hehe.. they were actually a happy married couple before all this mess happening. What a pity that they can’t be as happy as this now.
Then the scene went to Da Ae’s arriving at her place, and the next morning, right around middle of Episode 7, we got the scene of those two detectives, arriving at Seong Gu’s dad’s mansion. Hm, it might have been the time when the case of Seong Gu’s death came up.
Then the scene went to another flashback… it’s rather confusing if you don’t follow this closely, as now we have a flashback within a flashback.
But I won’t go deeper into these scenes now. In a nutshell, Detective Park had a case where the victim’s wife was wailing over the death of her husband, and he felt so responsible by it. It caused him to quit his job but he kept on supporting her by giving her allowance. As for Seong Gu’s dad, I think he was hired by him to find out more about his son’s death.
In the morning, the next day…
Back home, Dong Won went inside their bedroom, thinking that Hye Jin was still sleeping. He left a credit card on the table for her to use it. “Go shopping. Buy anything you like, okay?”

So she took his advice and went out shopping, though before she left the house, she felt a bit light-headed. And the ahjumma was like, if you’re sick why aren’t you stayed at home and had to go? lol. I really wanna smack this ahjumma somehow :P keke…
Hye Jin went shopping for shoes, and then she tried on this amazing dress.
So I just had to include all these caps, since Oh Yeon Soo looks sooooo gorgeous in it.

Hye Jin: Isn’t this a bit too low?
Salesgirl: No, it suits you so well, Ma’am…
But Hye Jin didn’t end up buying the dress, lol. So she left the store and went in another store. Just went she was looking over at some clothes, we see a shadow from behind. It was Joon Soo… watching her every move like a stalker. A darn handsome stalker keke..

And so they finally met up outside, with him offering her some icecream. “You like icecream, don’t you?” Joon Soo said.

Dong Won said he needed to apologize. “For what?” she said. “I don’t need an apology from you.” Then he explained that he did all that in purpose, following her, stalking her, watching her when she was with her kids.
Hye Jin wasn’t gonna take anymore of this from him, and she stood up. But then she gave him another chance by saying, “Aren’t you hungry?” and they went to this restaurant where Joon Soo ended up giving her his number… written on a piece of receipt paper.

Hye Jin told him that she didn’t know what she’d do in the future, if she’ll get a divorce of if she’ll stay with her husband. There’s nothing certain as of now, but Dong Won told her not to think too far.
On the way driving home, Hye Jin held the paper Dong Won gave, and about to throw it off her window, as a sign that she’d prefer not to have his number. But then, the great thing about this drama is that it is so NOT predictable at all. The characters are so strong and presented really well. (oh btw, they have another theme song in this scene when Hye Jin was driving home. They should really release the OST soon….)
The song chorus goes something like this, “Like a fool, I love you like this, please do know… believe my heart…” Ah~~ hehe…

At night, she was heating up some soup for Dong Won, and there we have it. She dropped the ‘bomb’.
Hye Jin: Let’s get divorce.
Dong Wan: What?

And Dong Won went off saying that there are different types of husbands in this world, which makes Hye Jin puked and she was in the bad mood for the rest of the night when Dong Won tried to console her in bed. This husband of hers really has no shame whatsoever.
The next morning, she prepares breakfast for her girls like usual, and Na Ri and Na Rae told her not to get sick anymore. And she smiled for the first time in this entire episode.
They went to the park with the doggy, and here, she got a call from Joon Soo.

Then later on at home, we see Dong Won playing with the girls, and Hye Jin was cutting some fruits.
The phone rang, and it was Dong Won’s handphone. His assistant called and they talked about business and some major stock with NASDAQ and whatnot.
As soon as Dong Won went inside his studyroom, she grabbed her phone and deleted Joon Soo’s number on her cell phone. Then we got another flashback of her and Joon Soo in Japan…

thanks for the recap! all I can say is that Lee Dong-wook is one gorgeous stalker hehe…
sometimes I also get confused with the flashbacks…but I think it is really essential to this drama
and I agree with you that Oh Yeon-soo is one gorgeous woman and an amazing actress…I remember getting hooked to an old drama of hers, A Second Proposal where her character was cheated by her husband but now in this drama, it’s the other way around but nevertheless her acting moves me…
I feel so sad for Hye Jin because all she ever wanted was the love of her husband and he didn’t give her that. If he had given her half of the attention and affection he put towards his affair, their marriage wouldn’t have fallen to this state. When he kept asking her if she wanted a divorce, I don’t think she did…when she first got back from Japan. He completely missed the point. I think all she ever wanted was her husband. I loved how she described her affair…comparing it to the passion she felt towards the young dr that helped in during a difficult childbirth. She had come so close to killing herself and been living an emotionally bankrupt life for so long, yet her hubby still doesn’t get it. BTW, I agree with the screen of Dong-Won in black. Very nice. keke Thanks for the recap ay_link. Time to work on subs for ep 8!
