La Dolce Vita Episode 8
ay_link May 27th, 2008

I can’t express how much I’m absorbed in this drama now, but yeah, so glad to know what despite the low ratings, this series has seriously and steadily captured my attention every single weekend. La Dolce Vita ROCKS! If you haven’t started watching this series, then you’re missing out BIG TIME.
Hands down to the write, Mr. Jung Ha Yeon, whom I just read that he’s not only a male writer, but for someone pass 65 to write so good about these characters (especially Da Ae), that is indeed beyond amazing. And apparently he hasn’t lost his ‘touch’ yet after the famous Shin Don (61 episodes, historical drama, which WITH S2 is currently subbing also as a side project.)
I’m so impressed at the progress of this series, and episode 8 captured me so much that I couldn’t choose only 20+ screencaps. So I went ahead and did around 30′ish for this one episode.

The episode started off with Da Ae driving oh-so recklessly (half-drunk, half-awake, half-insane lol). She parked her red mini on the no-parking spot and that security guard man tried to tell her not to park there (in which she ignored of course, lol).

She went ahead to the elevator… pressing on hurriedly, and waiting for it to take her to Joon Soo’s suite.
I gotta hand it for Park Si Yeon for her very improved acting throughout this series. I guess that’s what could happened if she’s working with professional actors, director and writer. It seems like the script brings the best in her. Watching her every week seems to be an enjoyable thing for me in comparison to “My Girl”, her first drama that I saw her in.

Joon Soo was just in the shower, and so we got to see Lee Dong Wook’s half-naked body. ㅋㅋㅋ
No effect to me though, coz I’m not his fan or anything :P but yeah, for all his fans, whoo-hoo, what a treat! Haha. Anyway…

Guess what brought Da Ae to barge in late at night like this?
Well, you guess it right if you do. Remember the brown suitcase that Joon Soo gave to Da Ae?
She came because of that, and because she demanded an explanation.

Not being able to answer all her questions, Joon Soo just stared at here and tried to let go of her. Da Ae couldn’t help it. She was half-drunk, plus I bet she was pretty darn confused at all this.
She opened the handful bag of money and threw some out on the floor while asking Joon Soo why in the world he gave her this, and what for? What’s the reason? Then she broke down in tears…
On the other hand, Hye Jin was making a cappucino for her hard-working fund-manager husband, who seemed to be very preoccupied at the recent happening with the stock-exchange. He seemed to be working his butt off, staring at the 6 monitors on his desk. Yes, six monitors, imagine that. Oh, and plus that lil screen, maybe a mini laptop.
He got a call from his assistant at work, and he told him the bad news, looking at the news from the TV…

Dong Won seemed to be very troubled and he had to go to the office immediately. But he then remembered his wife present and gladly accepted the glass of coffee that she brought from the kitchen. And… he gulped down the coffee, at once. ㅋㅋㅋ (and so his expression up there I posted for the front cover)
Being a great wife, she offered to make him some lunch/dinner pack for him to bring to the office. And so she prepared some kimbap (Korean sushi-rolls), after negotiating between sandwich and kimbap. Dong Won said anything will do. He’d take anything.
And back at Joon Soo’s, Da Ae was sleeping and Joon Soo tried to wake her up but he let her sleep a bit more.

He walked to the hallway and saw all the money on the floor and tried to clean them up.
And we’re back at Hye Jin’s kitchen, with her preparing the foods for Dong Won to bring.
After saying goodbye, Dong Won was about to leave but then he stopped and called his wife, “Yobbo…” (which mostly in our English subs, we use “Honey…” but the word itself means “Husband/hubby/Wife”. But I guess in English term, it’d sound better if we use a term of endearment like “Dear” or “Honey”, or “Darling”)

I just had to cap this one because Oh Yeon Soo is so darn radiant and pretty. She’s very mesmerizing and truly a great great actress (I know I said this a lot throughout this series ㅋㅋㅋ but she truly is.)
Back at Joon Soo’s, Da Ae finally woke up and she wanted to go home.
Joon Soo asked her, “Oh, you’re going home?” but then she was kinda hoping for him to tell her to stay for the night, which obviously Joon Soo didn’t say anything else. This scene is interesting, because all this while, I wasn’t really sure if Da Ae really likes Joon Soo, or she just likes to be liked and admired by him. But her behaviour here tells me that she’s actually on the verge of letting herself go to Joon Soo if he really wants to be with her. But Joon Soo seems to be really hesistant now that he has found out about the affair and of course, the whole affair with Hye Jin makes it a bit difficult.

After getting frustrated at Joon Soo’s cold behaviour, Da Ae went out and waited for the elevator.
But she said this to Joon Soo:
Da Ae: Joon Soo, you like me right?
No, you DO like me.
Then she kept on going how she’s not an easy woman, and challenged Joon Soo to admit his feelings for her. But since Joon Soo kept silent, she couldn’t take it anymore and left. And as soon as she left, and that elevator doors opened, Joon Soo grabbed her arm and they kissed passionately… leading to Joon Soo’s bedroom.

But after a while, before anything happened, something hit Joon Soo’s conscience and he stopped her from doing any further. And so they collapsed on the bed…
Da Ae tried to hide her feelings but we know for sure she was hurt by all this. As if Joon Soo rejected her completely, and she was feeling so ashamed. Joon Soo tried to apologize to her, but Da Ae collected herself and told him there’s nothing to be sorry for.

Then both of them walked down and patched things up as both of them can smile again even before Da Ae realized that her car is gone…

There was a ticket on the floor for parking-violation and to indicate that her car has been towed.
Da Ae told Joon Soo to wait a minute, and she walked to the sleepy security guard sitting not too far from them.

Da Ae: Ahjussi!!!
Where’s my car?!?
Security Guard: Car? How would I know?
Da Ae: Ahjussi!! You know it! My car, where is it?!!!
MY CAR!!!

Hahaha.. I love this scene. Soooo hilarious. Bravo to Park Si Yeon!
Next scene, we see both of them riding on the motorcycle, and they went out to have some early breakfast.

I kinda like this scene too, because it seems that Park Si Yeon and Lee Dong Wook are really comfortable with each other. Well, they were ‘lovers’ before in the 2005 drama, My Girl. So this drama is their 2nd collaboration.

After saying goodbyes, they went on separate ways. Now, I can safely assumed that Da Ae is smitten by Joon Soo. So she likes him, and not Dong Won, right? Clearly her feelings for Dong Won are gone, but the guy can’t seem to get over at her since as soon as he left home to go to the office, he stopped by at Da Ae’s and tried to call her. But because Byuk Ja picked up the phone, he hang up the phone quickly.

In the morning, Hye Jin was talking to her husband and asked him how he’s been, since apparently he slept over at his office. And Da Ae got questioned by Byuk Ja.

Byuk ja told her not to pick up the phone from Dong Won, but she picked up anyway.
Dong Won asked her what she’s doing, and she said she just took a shower and about to get some sleep. So Dong Won asked if she hasn’t slept the whole night, and asked her to meet up later on tonite.
At home, Hye Jin was about to go out, and she saw Joon Soo outside, waiting for her on his bike.

Joon Soo smiled at her at first, but seeing at Hye Jin’s reaction, his smile quickly gone away.
And the housemaid ahjumma, as soon as Hye Jin left, she called her lousy boyfriend to come over, and we got to see Bok Soon, the doggy. Ah, she’s been groomed! Omo. Poor dog~~
Hye Jin went to register herself to a fitness place, and she used her husband’s credit card. And all along, Joon Soo’s been following her from behind and they met up in the parking lot.

So Hye Jin finally gave up and they had a long, intense talk at the restaurant.
Joon Soo: I’m sorry.
I really have to apologize to you.
Hye Jin: There’s no need to.
Joon Soo: No. I really have to apologize.
Then he told her all about it. How he knew about her, how he met her at the airport, how he knew her husband, and on the plane to Japan, he knew exactly why she was feeling so sad. He told her that he knew Dong Won from the night he saw him in front of Da Ae’s place, which startled Hye Jin and asked him if he knew that woman (referring to Da Ae).

So let’s go back. Remember this scene?
This is the first time Joon Soo learnt about Da Ae and Dong Won. And apparently, Dong Won saw him also. (We didn’t get to see this part before). And so Joon Soo told Hye Jin that he knew about the affair.
Furious and angry, Hye Jin quickly got up and went out. She couldn’t believe what she just heard from Joon Soo. Really great acting from Oh Yeon Soo when she was half-sobbing, half-smiling in disbelief while driving to pick up her daughters.

The next scene is where Hye Jin took the two girls to eat at a pizza/buffet place.
Na Ri told her younger sister Na Rae to pick up more ‘orenji’ (oranges). Na Rae said, “Okay, orrrangeee.”

On the table, they had such a cute convo…
It started off with the little Na Rae.
Na Rae: Mom, mom… it’s not ORENJI, ORRRANGES.
Hye Jin: What’s that?
Na Rae: Unni said it ‘orenji’, not orange.
Try it.
Na Ri: Orenji…
Na Rae: See. It’s not orenji, but OR-RANGE.
Mom, you try it.
Hye Jin: Orange~
Haha.. that lil smarty pants. It’s cute to see the interaction between Hye Jin and her daughters. And hopefully they’ll have a few more of these convos in the future. Such a ice-breaker from the whole ‘dark’ and serious theme of this series.
The next scene we see Dong Won and his hyung drinking at the bar and Dong Won asked why he got a divorce. So apparently the guy is divorced and is now living his bachelor life.
And Hye Jin was still with the girls, as they went to the park and played some swing.

At night, she tucked the girls to bed (I love how they decorate the room. So pretty, so girly, so well suited)
Hye Jin got herself a cup of coffee, and listening to some old records in her living room. But then she heard some noise from outside her house… guess who?

It was Joon Soo… with all the fireworks and that teddy bear, exactly the same as what he got her in Japan. Oh, the fireworks! What a reminisce of that hot night in Japan when they first kissed (and led to the one-night stand incident.) Hye Jin seemed so surprised but her neighbor wasn’t happy at all this noise. Keke… so Joon Soo bowed down and apologized to the neighbor for all he’s done, which made Hye Jin smiled.
In the morning, we finally see the bikini scene that Oh Yeon Soo talked about in her last interview. If you haven’t read about that interview, she did mention that she prepared this bikini scene for months, and oh boy, what a great body she has! And she’s already 30+ woman with 2 boys! Amazing. Her real-life husband, Son Ji Chang (also an actor) is very lucky~ hehe… since Oh Yeon Soo seems to age beautifully, looking at her younger pictures, she does look way prettier now than before.

Back to the pool…
Hye Jin was about to put on her goggles but then Joon Soo tricked her. He pushed her into the water, then smiled…

The episode ended right after this…
Additional Thoughts:
I really like this episode since I think it’s the most interesting one so far, after that one night in Japan. And plus, the sountrack is friggin amazing! The background songs, the theme songs, the rap part at the beginning (where Joon Soo and Da Ae were kissing passionately).. they’re all wonderful.
I’m totally excited now that we had an officiate OST release date for this series =)

Shenny! I haven’t even started watching this drama yet, but now I don’t want to miss it. Okay, maybe today I can check out at least one ep!
I just watched this eppie last night thanks to the subbing project and got soooo into this show that I wanted to go back and read your recap this a.m. I realize this is the post where you say that this show is a must-see. I had only read the first part of your recap back when I first posted a comment because I didn’t want the spoliers. I was the same way about this eppie! It was awesome. The scenes between Joon Soo and Da Ae were so intense and go way beyond anything they did together in My Girl. I was surprised how he rejects her in this episode. woah~ painful! And, I felt terrible for Hye Jin as she is told that he approached her on purpose. I don’t blame her for feeling totally played. Oh Yeon Seo does look AWESOME in that swim suit. Rock on ahjumma! To think she played Song Il Kuk’s omma in Jumong. Glad she gets a younger guy chasing her in this drama. keke Hugs ay-link and thanks for your blog.
Dang!
Lee Dong Wook is hot!!
I’m not his fan too, but after a long time of ‘vacation’ of Korean drama finally i think i would like to watch this drama when I have time later.
Your review is enthralling tough I skip to read it to reserve the story for myself first.
