Women in the sun: an overview

ay_link May 28th, 2008

The new KBS Wed-Thursday 16-eps drama has aired its pilot episode last night @ 9:55PM Korea time with a first rating of 6.8% (based on TNS media). This drama has taken the slot of  Three Dads One Mom drama that ended last week.  The drama has been in my ‘watch-list’ ever since I found out Kim Ji Soo returns to television after four years and her lead actor is Han Jae Suk (All About Eve, Lobbyist).  As well as, Lee Hana (Alone In Love, Merry Daegu), and Jung Kyeo Woon (La Dolce Vita - plays as Seung Gu, the ‘dead friend’)

Here’s the synopsis from KBS World site:

Do-Young, 33-year-old top anchor woman in Korea, apparently seems to be the perfect role model for every girl in passion. She has got it all, from educational background, prosperous family, beautiful feature, natural-born talent and even adorable personality. Do-Young shines anywhere and everywhere, but deep down in her heart, she suffers from extreme loneliness and cold.

Originally, Do-young was abandoned in front of a orphanage when she was a very little girl. By chance, she was adopted to a rich professor family without any kid and lead her princess life. Several years later, when the step parents got their unexpected biological daughter, Do-young felt threatened that she might lose her parents’ love and affection. So, 13- year- old Do-young abandoned her 5-year-old little sister in front of the Seoul Central Train Station and took her parental love back.

20 years later, Do-young met a charming personal shopper, Sawol, in VIP corner of a luxurious department store. By her merry and cheerful characteristics, Sawol chooses fashion item for Do-young and they starts to feel friendly each other. By the malicious purpose of Do-young’s orphanage friend, Do-Young’s terrible deed is disclosed and Sawol turns out to be the very sister that Do-young has abandoned. depicts two sisters and their love, desire, revenge, and forgiveness.

So in a nutshell, Shin Do Young (Kim Ji Soo) is Yoon Sa Wol’s (Lee Hana) step-sister. Sa Wol’s parents adopted Do Young, but when they were younger, Do Young left her sister in a train station, which explain why the mother seems to hate Do Young so bad. (She has that nasty look, though she tries so hard to hide it. Oh, and she’s also Sae Byuk’s mother from KBS daily drama, “You are my destiny”)

Kim Joon Sae (played by actor Han Jae Suk) is the handsome fiance of Shin Do Young (which is a TV producer of this TV show called “Wonder Woman Show”, in which won the best screenplay at the Asian TV Festival. lol).  And Jung Kyeo Woon plays as a stranger who then became a friend to Do Young when he rescues her from an incident in this first episode.

Women in the sun first episode seems quite solid and promising indeed. And so I’m glad to announce that WITH S2 will be subbing this drama as our first summer project. Yay!

Feel free to email me if you’d like to help with the translations. We still need help from Korean translators as well as Chinese translators as I heard there’s a new chinese subbing group who’ll be subbing this series as their first project.
