Saranghao, the unleashed of the 2nd single

ay_link September 5th, 2008

Everyone has seen Alex’s newest MV for his 2nd single, “Saranghao”, right?
If so, may I just say, one thing first?
Brilliant MV concept!

It’s the kind of MV that makes you curious at the beginning… can’t afford to take your eyes off of it… afraid that you might miss something if you even blink.   A unique concept, “split-screen” in black and white… something I hardly seen in Korean music videos lately.  Classic, yet not old, simplistic but still very intriguing, vintage but also very romantic.  Bravo, Alex! ^^ and whoever the PD for this MV is =D

[DL LINK]

After watching this MV in repeat for about 10 times, lol, I can’t believe how much we can learn about Alex and his “Vintage” romance’s way.  How a singer and his MV can inspire and teach me so much about art, music and love.  About songwriting, and his passion as a singer (from the gesture, eye-contact, smiles and the way he acted in this MV *in awe*)

Yet, after a few months later, who knew I’m still gushing about “My Vintage Romance” album?

Now about the song itself…

“Saranghao” - Though technically it means “I love you”, but I’d like to put it in the ‘vintage’ way which is more like, “I loveth thou” - lyrics by Kim Jung Hoon (DJ Clazzi) & Alex, and produced by Kim Jung Hoon (DJ Clazzi) himself.  (Now this is the part where we say, “No wonder!” lol.)

Do pay a very close attention to the lyrics and if you’re comfortable enough to memorize it, rewatch the MV again and be very amazed by the choices of words they both used to compose this song.  The English lyrics may not be as closed as the Korean ones, but I personally think they’re great enough to appreciate the song as a whole.

(Though sometimes I wonder, would Alex be as romantic as this song? People in Korea knew better and that is why the label “#1 Romantic Guy in Korea” is appropriate - with or without “We Got Married” heh heh heh… more power to the #1 Romantic Guy in Korea! Dae Han Min Guk!!!) LOL

LYRICS

Saranghao (”I love you”) - Track 10 Alex 1st album “My Vintage Romance”

Close your eyes, this night where your heart skips,
Please receive my heart that whispers closely to your ear,

I love your two bright eyes,
May I live inside them?
Two hearts filled by the midnight blue sky,
Hold my hand and tell me you won’t change,
You’re beautiful, The night only us two spend together
Please catch my heart that faints at the sight of you
Will you accept this somehow awkward promise?
This passionate heart

I love your two bright eyes,
May I live inside them?
Two hearts filled by the midnight blue sky,
Hold my hand and tell me you won’t change,
The many people who rub shoulders past me and in abandon,
The beautiful, sweet touch of our lips
I love your two bright eyes,
Will you let me live in them?

Two hearts filled by the midnight blue sky,
Hold my hand and tell me you won’t change,
That your heart has not changed,
Tell me while I hold you in my arms~

I really love this MV’s concept.
    Really beautiful!!
black and white strongly give ‘vintage and romantic’ feeling to the MV

    Bravo!!

I was a bit jealous for Shinae (I was jealous) when I saw three girls with Alex. When the video was coming to an end and tells a different story, I was relieved and happy. What a clever MV’s concept. Well done!
    Thanks for the posting.

(Now this is the part where we say, “No wonder!” lol.)

I just knew it that DJ Clazzi gave him a hand in producing his songs!!!!

Thanks Ay_link, for the MV and the lyrics. Don’t shoot me but i feel that “Saranghao” and “Yuneen” (Sweetheart) are the two weakest ballads in his solo album. Maybe it’s just me. I’m not exactly crazy about love ballads. ): Personally, i’m a bit surprised Alex has chosen this song as his second single. I still go for “Already” or “Daisy”. Don’t shoot me now. LOL!

BUT, l love the MV. Very Clazziquai. If you’ve seen the MV for Clazziquai’s “Love Mode(ft Tablo)” and “Sweety”, you’ll notice that they have the same split screen style. I won’t be surprised if DJ Clazzi is the director of Alex’s second MV. ): I love the twist at the end of the story in the MV. Now where have i seen it before? LOL! Thanks again, Ay_link.

MV is very beautiful. But the first time I watched it I felt the same way as ‘teokong’ hahaha I cant help but jealous for Shinae .Look at his expression while he’s singing (Just wonder who he’s thinking of while singing ) Fortunately, it flipped differently. Sunday is too long for me now.. Alex Fighting and Good Luck..

when i think of this song and the korean and english lyrics that go along with it what exactly do the people think when they watch, listen, or read the lyrics…. since alex oppa wrote the songs on his album with the accompany of some help their is still a meaning……

i think that this is about the time that Shinae and alex spent together and how they got to spend their last day together and how they long for one another…..

wah. that’s such a very awesome MV i’ve seen in a long while. thanks a lot for sharing!!

@teokong & Joonhee, hahaha.. you know what, I felt the same way too!
I was like, “What? 3 girls???” HAHAHA and couldn’t help but to feel jealous for Shinae (and wishing silently for Shinae to be in the MV)
But then, hahaha.. ahhh I felt so much better after watching it till the end. LOL.

    @dihei, LOL really?
but… but… you know Alex picked Saranghao as the 2nd single, so he must have high hopes on this one from the start ;)
To me, the weakest link is Track 1. Till today, I still question why Alex put it as the opening track~ Dunno why but I still don’t like that song…
Too sappy, too ballad, and the rhythm is too slow.
But yeah, I knew he wouldn’t choose “Daisy” as the 2nd single, though that track is a strong one indeed (I love the track also)… since Saranghao has that ‘market-value’ to attract ppl’s attention and plus, the title itself supports the theme of MVR, imo.

    Awesome video! Love it!
Personally I appreciate the most the style of it, it’s totally me :)
If I had to record a song and make a video afterwards, it would be just like this!

I also like the concept, even tho I was hoping to see ShinAe in the end with him, haha!
The song isn’t so fascinating comparing it to his other songs, but I still like it.
    Perfect,indeed!

Initially I thought, ‘Wow, Alex seeing three girls in succession’…?
Then the ending of the MV came and I was relieved. But yeah, the girls can’t compare to ShinAe (obviously!)!
This MV is like none other that I’ve seen. It’s one of a kind!
    Very creative concept!
I liked the black and white vintage feel, with Alex at the end toting his ‘vintage’ camera~

    *thumbs up*
