M RIZING: Yay or Nay?

ay_link September 23rd, 2008

They say the 3rd one is the charm, so then, what’s next?

After a year and 3 months, Shinhwa’s talented artist/composer/songwriter Lee Minwoo (or now simply known as M) came back with his newest 4th album, which he himself is known to have fully produced this album himself. As he has composed many, many songs for other artists, it’s only right that he produced this 4th album “M RIZING” hosted by his own record label.

The album title track (#2) is called “Don’t trust men” featuring Big Tone

After-thoughts:

I always admire his musical ingenious talent, especially when he has produced so many great songs for Shinhwa also. But this album, I have a very low expectation for it, as mostly his genre is more to upbeat, dancing songs, I’d say, this 4th album has his signature all of it also. Not that it’s a bad thing, but out of 12 tracks, I could only recommend 3 songs under ‘jazzholic’ radar. Hehe. So it’s a half-nay for me :P

Track 2 남자를 믿지마 - Catchy. Great music. Great rap. Great MV. First impression, “Wow, this is not bad, M… not bad at all.”  Usually, I fall for the song because of its music first. And sometimes watching the MV first doesn’t really help much because then I’d get another impression from how the MV is presented.  But in this case, I think M did a great job in choosing this one as his title track.  His baddie attitude in the MV, and how it shows him working at the studio, it really suits him.  There’s something with watching a musician in his studio. It’s sexy~ ㅋㅋㅋ  Oh, but one thing. What’s with the water-splash thing? And he has done this before? Errr. O-kay then.

Track 4 용서해 - typical ballad intro, but I’m a sucker for those type.  Besides, with the title “Please forgive me”, how could you ignore this track? ;)  So yeah, because of my own musical background, this track has that sense of ’settleness’ to my ears.  And I won’t be surprised if Minu is the one behind the keyboard for this track. One talented guy, yes he is.

Track 12 나의 여백 - the M’s Epilogue one. Not overly done, but it’s sweet. I dunno if I like this track better than track 4, but I know I prefer to hear his subtle voice like this :) Though the English lyrics are sometimes a bit o_O to my ears,… not that his English is bad or anything like that. But yeah, some of them can make me raise my eyebrows. ㅋㅋㅋ

Well, that’s what I thought.
What about yours?
M RIZING, is it a Yay or Nay for you?

Thanks for the post and video clip. Nice song. I hope my eye is not deceiving me, the girl on the balcony is ShinAe? Read somewhere that Min Woo and ShinAe broke up some time ago. Back together?
Sorry, now to answer your question, is Yay for me.

I haven’t really listened to it yet, but I did see the mv and heard the song for his title track and I really liked it. I, personally, haven’t heard a song from him that I really liked in a while so it was surprising that I was replaying the track over and over (more like rewinding the mv on youtube) while at work. I’m waiting for my copy of the cd to come, first I’ve bought of his since his first album. I’m such a bad fan, yes, I know.

Overall, I think he’s done so well for himself and I’m really hoping that this album will do well for him.

Sorry, couldn’t give a better take on it since I haven’t listened to it fully yet.

don’t really listen to his solo music, but i must say the man has pretty eyes.

    side thought:

with titles such as “Don’t Trust Men”, “Please Forgive Me”, “Sad Song” and “Enamored Girl”…

    one would think:

“Oh man, with watching WGM, M has seen a side of Shinae that he has never seen and now is reminscing about the past and thinking about “what if’s” and quite possibly patching things up?”

lol…I’m probably stabbing at air but that would be a good thing.

but if it isn’t just air…

I’m gonna have to do some serious M ass-kickin’ (very sorry to the major M fans)

Because: It would put my “ALSHIN” in a very vunerable situation and I can’t have that with all that they’ve invested in each other, I can’t have indecisiveness from either one of them about their status on the show and off.

Good thing AnBi is leaving then… (sorry to the major AnBi fans too) I’m one too, not majorly but they ARE cute. With them leaving, all the more for M to stop watchin’ WGM and privately thinking up “possibilities” if he is…

lol me and my melodramatic imagination. Sorry!

    Alshin Fighting!

Thanks for post and video clip. Nice song. Hope my eye is not deceiving me, the girl on the balcony looks like ShinAe. Thought she had broke off with Minwoo. Anyway, M RIZING is a Yay for me.

Track 4 raises my ears and cant help but wonder if its for Shin Ae teehee

Yes! When I watched the video I really thought for a moment that it was Shinae!!! But he sure did cast a girl that resembled her a lot. Hmm…??? What is Minwoo trying to do to poor Shinea messing with her mind again? Alex is to the rescue for sure. I hope!

Minwoo, good new to hear, hope everybody support him. Love Shinhwa ^^

Hm…the song is catchy, and I like the beat. ^_^ But I can’t help wondering about some kind of message behind that MV…the girl waiting did look like ShinAe. Probably unintentional, but dangerous nonetheless when your viewers are eagle-eyed netizens. =P And “Don’t Trust Men” and the ending scene…makes me slightly suspicious. Just idle imagining. xP It’s probably all a coincidence…for all I know, Minwoo and ShinAe could be back to best friends by now (for both their sakes, I would hope so…).

    Anyway, thanks for sharing! =)

A girl who resembles Shinae is quite aplenty. Fair skin, long straight hair, graceful. It’s the standard definition of ‘a lady’. =)

From what I interpret from the MV, Minwoo is reminiscing about his past love, but isn’t that what we normal people do at times too?

In WGM, Shinae is known as ‘the one who has her heart broken which caused her to close up’ and AlShin’s relationship kind of grows where Alex tries to coax her to open up again. Casual viewers automatically think that Shinae’s ex is the bad guy, and the more knowing audience automatically assume that the man is Minwoo - just because their past relationship was known publicly.

I personally think it’s a bit unfair for them all, to be judged as such. One of their sacrifices on being a public figure, I guess. Minwoo-Shinae relationship was their own affair and they have rights to not reveal anything to the media. What turned wrong in their relationship may not be one’s fault alone. We will never know.

I came off as a bit defensive, ain’t I? LOL. Sorry, am both an AlShin shipper and a Shinhwa fan. Just giving my two cents from my view. ;D

As to answer ay_link’s original question, I this it’s half-yay for me too. I prefer his 3rd. But what I like about this album is the versatility he tried to bring in. That effort is commendable to me. ^^

all these comments make M look like a playboy…LOL

  11. k-lover on 25 Sep 2008 at 12:06 am

LOL @ dreamraine’s comment. Ha…ha I had the same thought when I was watching the MV since it seems he had a lot of preetty ladies around him and he didn’t seem to mind. :D

About the rumour of Shinae and M whether it’s true or not: Like takki_aniki said, I think it’s best not to butt in into Shinae and M’s private matter because IMHO that’ll just feed the crazy anti-netizens minds with juicy gossip which will only ruin both Shinae and M’s public image.

But other than that, that song does sound quite good and preetty sweet with a nice tempo. Thank you aylink, for letting us listen to his third album! :)

thanks for sharing. The song was nice, I don’t usually listen to him but I’ll need to rethink that.
