No doubt, this scene was the best of Episode 15.

The despair, the longing, the love, the hesitant heart, the suspense of suppressing its love towards the woman he has been secretly cared for. Dong Chul has chosen to stand by his choice, to keep Young Ran at arms length, in order to fulfill his promise to President Guk (Young Ran’s father).

How will this bittersweet love story continue from now on?

For a few days, I’ve been watching a lot of “East of Eden” episodes.  And yesterday, after watching episode 15, the reunion between Dong Chul (Song Seung Hun) and Young Ran (Lee Yeon Hee) was indeed such a bittersweet love story to begin with.  She is his boss’ only daughter, whom he can only promised to stay away from her and not to mess with her future.

The emotional exchange between the two of them at this scene, if I haven’t seen any of EOE episodes at all, I wouldn’t believe that he loves her deep down.  The way he welcomed her heart for the moment, and received her kisses, then pushed her away, I thought that was it. He has really erased any feelings he has left for Young Ran.  But then, there was that tears welled-up in his eyes.  That beautiful pair of eyes full of sorrow, Dong Chul really tried hard to reject her and push her away.  But how could he? After all the promises he had to make in front of her father, the man that’ll help him achieve that ultimate goal of revenge he has set his eyes on.  Poor Dong Chul.  Even his mom can only cry and feel sorry for him, for bringing up such a son with all the bitterness in life.

Bravo for Song Seung Hun for the excellent portrayal of Dong Chul. And Lee Yeon Hee, for her strong performance of this spoiled-brat only daughter, who can’t go beyond her father’s wishes.
