Muhyul & Dojin, friends or foes?

They were supposed to be each other’s ’shadow’ during those hellish days at the Black Shadows’ camp. But fate tells them differently, and now us viewers are left hanging to see how these two will become the best enemies, or the best rivals when their time is up.
I’ve been watching “Kingdom of the wind” (KOTW) episodes closely these past few days, and I never thought I’d really like it as much as now. Come to think about it, KOTW is my very first sageuk (historical drama) since “Tae Wang Sa Shin Ki” (a.k.a. Legend) is considered as a fantasy drama, and “Dae Jang Geum” is kinda like semi-sageuk ‘coz of all the cooking and whatnot.
The two characters above are Muhyul (played by Song Il Guk) and Dojin (played by Park Gun Young; “Innocent Steps” opposite Mun Geun Young, and his latest KBS drama was “When Spring Comes”; which I totally skipped the drama altogether, just because.) As you can predict, in every drama, there’s bound to have a love triangle, and though ’sadly I say, Muhyul and Dojin will be having the very same love-triangle (with Yeon, played by Choi Jung Won), but the interesting part is that Dojin and Muhyul were like brothers. Because of circumstances, like Dojin said, their path crossed and they used to walk in the same road, but now they’re on a different path and so be it. He said it like friendship means nothing to him. His loyalty is for Buyeo, the country that hates Muhyul’s country for generations, and Dojin has no problem following his nation’s king though it means he has to be on the opposite of Muhyul.
At this point, I’m excited to see how these two will become the best of rivals, since both of them have the same skillful level as they were both trained on the same hell camp. (omg Black Shadows’ camp is even worst than the worstest bootcamp ever existed in this world. They ‘planted’ poisons on live persons’ body just to test how strong/weak the reaction is from each poison. WTH? *shivers*) Muhyul tries to warn Dojin because he knew he would probably have to fight Dojin if he keeps being on the way. Funny thing is that I still cannot hate Dojin, for now, though he is a very scary person to be around with. A true cold-blooded assassin. (Praise Park Gun Young for such excellent potrayal of a true slave-turn-assassin, which later on maybe he’d raise the crown for Buyeo. I didn’t know I’d say this, but Dojin kinda stole my attention off Muhyul and Yeon for a moment with this cold, icy look. Ah, bad boys are always so attractive! lol~)
As for the love-triangle later on, I don’t think Dojin will become really evil just because of his jealousy towards Muhyul and Yeon. Though I think he does have the right to be jealous, since she’s practically the only woman he ever cared for all his life, and the fact that Yeon’s father asked him personally to take care of her does a very good legitimate reason of his possessiveness of Yeon. I love how he said to Muhyul with such a calm voice… “Thank you for taking care of her. I shall take this from here. (in a simpler word: “move over buddy, she’s mine.” lol). She’s the only woman I’ve ever loved, and Wesaja (Yeon’s father) has asked me to take care of her… which I intend to do so.” And upon hearing this, Muhyul is dumbfounded. And this very scene marks the beginning of their ‘love-triangle’. Dojin and Muhyul will be fighting against each other, and though they were once friends, they could be the best of foes in the near future. The two last episodes are the hot topic of all KOTW fans, and because of their performance, people are eager to see more of Muhyul and Dojin’s relationship in the upcoming episodes. Netizens are praising Park Gun Young and Song Il Guk, and stumbling upon how easy it is to be friends then foes. In life, these two seem to have a very thin line in between. I’m still hoping we’ll get more of them being friends before they really fight for what they think it’s right. (and I’m almost hoping they can clone Yeon or something, so both of them don’t have to be in a love-triangle anymore. Heh~ *smirk*)

Park Gun Young has always been a credible actor. I always like him. He has that stage presence. It really differentiates how theater training is far superior to restrictive reel training.
I belatedly knew that he was in this production, so now, because of him, I might just watch this sageuk.
I’m doing a KOTW marathon right now, I’m already on Episode 11, where Dojin escaped from Buyeo…I really can’t wait how Park Gun-hyung or Dojin turns into a baddie but I also liked how he acts here though I’m a really big Song Il-kook fan, I must really finish the episodes quick!
SIG and PGH are doing a fantastic job portraying their characters in KOTW. Actually all the cast here is superb (especially JJY, that hot curly ahjussi hehehe). But I think we won’t be able to see more friendship between Muhyul and Dojin, cause they already declared the war between them in this scene. *sigh* so sad, cause I loved their relation before.
ahh BTW shenny.
since you said that the only Saeguks you saw were Jewel In the Palace and the Legend… and it looks like you’re totally falling for Dojin’s character here keke I advise you to watch Emperor Of The Sea… SIG was the 2nd male lead and Dojin’s character actually reminds me a lot of Yeum Moon (SIG)… you will totally root for him all the time.
