The not-so-grand “I love you don’t cry” Finale

Posted on 22 May 2009 by ay_link

After all these months, this MBC morning daily darma, “I love you don’t cry” has finally closed its chapter. Thank God! :D what a provocative show that somewhat started with a full potential, hit the ground and never recovered again. I honestly don’t know why I kept on watching, but maybe the rest of 20%-something ratings shared the same dilemma as I have. They just can’t stop watching because they want to know the ending? Nope. More like, they’re stuck. Can’t quit the drama after 100+ episodes not knowing how everything will turn out. Or, simply because a drama like this sucked the air out of you, and magically hypnotized the mind to keep on going. Yeah, that’s more likely what happened to mine. LOL~

Anyhoo.
So how did the not-so-grand ending look like?
Let’s take a brief look~

After struggling to keep his marriage, Hyun Woo (Lee Sang Yoon) told his mother that if she can’t accept Mi Su (Lee Yuri), he’d take his wife to New York. Shocked, his mother fell down the stairs and collapsed. The story is just so bizarre, it blows my mind (lol). That was the last ending I saw in episode 130. However, things aren’t looking good, as the preview for 131 shows that Hyun Woo (finally) gave up and mentioned the word, “Let’s get a divorce” to his beloved wife. Duh? To me, after all this while, Mi Su is the love of his life. How could he decide things like this when he’s soooo in love with her? Is he a mama’s boy? Yup, for sure. *rolleyes*

Anyways, I’m not sure if I like this kind of ending, especially if Hyun Woo and Mi Su are getting divorce anyway at the end. (What’s the point of them getting married? Just to bring back the crazy girl Seo Young into Young Min’s life? What about keeping up with the story of Young Min loves Mi Su, Mi Su loves Young Min?)  But I guess this is how the writer had in mind (for so long) of how the 4 main characters will turn out at the very end.

“I love you don’t cry” finished with a farewell”

“I love you, I’m sorry.  I can’t no longer make you unhappy and miserable. I’ll let you go. ”

On May 22, MBC morning drama, “I love you don’t cry” finally ended its 132nd episode with an open ending. Jang Hyun Woo (Lee Sang Yoon) and Jo Mi Su (Lee Yuri) finally got a divorce.  After numerous attempts in keeping their marriage alive, Hyun Woo’s mom’s hatred towards her daughter-in-law just cannot be helped. Hyun Woo finally decided to let go of his beloved wife and everyone moved on with their lives.

During the ‘breakup’ scene, Hyun Woo quietly shed his tears and hugged Mi Su. For their love cannot win the battle, their strength to keep the marriage has finally come to an end. He said, “I love you, I’m sorry. I can’t no longer make you unhappy and miserable. I’ll let you go.”

Meanwhile, Han Young Min (Lee Jung Jin) and Min Seo Young (Oh Seung Hyun) finally broke up their relationship. (Finally!) After having hatred, and her obsession towards Young Min, Seo Young finally realized that she can’t do this any longer. They remain as friends and go on separate ways.

These separations are beautifully drawn and potrayed. The happiness, hatred for each other, tears of separation and even their reconciliation are the main theme throughout the whole drama. In particular, Hyun Woo and Mi Su and the whole process of their divorce. Though tears coming down their cheeks, they brave themselves up and told the whole family.

“I love you don’t cry” after airing for almost 3 months has successfully captured each hero’s live until the end. In the last scene, the two main characters, Young Min and Mi Su met again accidentally (see picture below). And they shared an umbrella under the rain, indicating a possible reunion between the two. The kind of open-ending that can create ambiguous and vague storyline of what could happen between the two of them now that they’re both single again. But I guess we’ll never know as each viewer may insert their own ‘happy’ ending for their favorite couple.

On Monday, May 25, MBC will have the new daily drama, “Give me food!” starring Ha Hae Ra, Kim Hye Seon and Oh Yoon Ah.

I was really sad to see Hyun Woo and Mi Soo getting divorce. One thing that made me really sad that Hyun Woo gave up his beloved wife even he still loved her so much. I was so disappoint at the end. How sad!

Hey I’m from indonesia. I’ve just watched 2 episodes and now I’m no longer interested after reading this ending. I don’t like sad story, even though it’s an open ending story. Thanks.

i agree with you..what’s the point in mi su and hyun woo even marrying each other. the drama went downfall for me after awhile and i stopped watching it, but did mi su married hyun woo out of love or just to forget young min? what a weird plot…i love the characters very much though but i just don’t like the fact that they’re married but one still love the other and who knows what they’ve done together being married. and then young min and scary lady (i don’t know her name, sry) stays together though they know nothing will work between them, it’s like they’re just killing themselves slowly being with someone they don’t love or a obsess thing. sigh…and in the end, everyone just break up and go back to the real lover…it’s hard for me to accept these kind of relationship and how they work it out in a wrong way in the beginning..sigh…sigh…i can’t stop sighing with a disappointment in the relationships they go through…
i don’t want to offend anyone but seeing this sort of situation happening in real life but much darker and deeper between married couples having affair or stuff like that disgust me. that is why i find it strange when mi su and hyun woo are married and all that feelings in between…sigh…

they must be very tired and worn out because of the long episodes. i wonder how long did it take them to finish filming?

Well I will see it through to the end is the writer basically saying if the family won’t accept you the marriage doesn’t have a chance. It looks like no matter how much they love each other, that means nil without family approval. Plus also don’t visibly love your wife more than you Mom. Just thought that Hyun Woo was a Mom’s boy and only child too as long as the wife didn’t take first priority she was okay with Mom. I don’t know why Mothers expect the son to be physically attracted to any woman as long as the mother picked them. I guess it’s the writers opinion that without wholehearted family approval and support your marriage will not last. It is just encouraging Mothers to be stubborn about who there children will marry. I guess everyone will wait until their parents die out.

They showed that they might get together to satisfy the viewer who wanted her to be in a relationship with Young Min but most Mothers would never want their young unmarried daughters to marry a man with a child. But the writer did not support that Young Min and Mi Soo. Also I just didn’t buy that she could organize her feelings well enough to get married and truly have her best friend as her lover.

Basically the writer was saying it’s a difficult situation men with children and family. I don’t think they will get married maybe have an affair just don’t see them going down the road to get family approval. Aunt wasn’t going to change her mind especially now that Mi Soo is a divorcee maybe they will share a meal and reminiscence. Or will they be ready to just get married and live separately with Joon.

I wish there will be a writer to shows that you can make these situations work. But arranged marriages has always lasted much longer than love marriages so I guess I don’t expect the writers to change that formula. Interesting drama. When you have children you always have to do the best for the child since they will live on much longer than you. As long as the person is of good character and family of supportive character and they have a good relationship both families should support it.

But in KDramas it seems marriages are a business to acquire wealth and also to sustain wealth going into the next generation. So basically it is up to the man to get it up and produce an heir even if he is not physically attracted to his picked wife. I guess that is why having mistresses is not a big deal it is just accepted to keep this practice going.

Mi Soo was so different that most women very warm and outgoing and received a lot of affection from the men in her life which caused a lot of jealousy with most of her in laws. Even though she broke up with Young Min I just didn’t thing she should have rushed into the marriage with her friend it was bound to fail.

Difficult situations with no easy solutions but the writer time an again mentioned without wholehearted family approval is it worth it to go against the family and also marry when you don’t bring the finances or dowry you need to. Almost seems like he was championing same financial class marriages along with family approval, and to go against that will your marriage survive and will it be worth it in the long run and the answer was no since they got a divorce. Having a daughter marry was such a stress on a family that has meager means cause the daughter in law is never good enough.

erica and mzlill, thank you for your comment.

i suffered chest pain while wathching YM n Ms seperated. to the scriptwriter, what in the world are you thinking with ur story? it was great in the beginning but you ruined it when the 2 best friend get married, the lunatic woman and Ym reconciled n then Hw n Misoo got divorced. and then you ended with an open ending. will Ym and Ms fall in love each other again? to be honest with you it is very disappointing, i ask myself is it worth the time i spend in watching ?

i repeat, the the story is beautiful and very romantic , the background music are lovely, i rally enjoy it but it dies when Misso and young Min seperaated 2 people who really love each other seperated by greed of money, and other circumstances in the story. it woul be mmore apropriate if the 2 fight for thier love no matter what.

but to actors Lee Yuri and Lee jung Jin. congrats. love you both good acting.

Well I love KDrama, but I don’t know much about specific on Korean culture about marriage nows a day. I can only tell that Korean (without generalizing) still have a very strong conservative views in their drama. I am a vietnamese, with very traditional background, but I confront and mary a philipina lady, against by own parents approval. But 5 years later, they accepted that we really love and care for each other. Now we live together in a duplex style house, and my wife is getting well along with my mom. So I think, it’s up to the man to stand for their wife, no matter whats. If the man is weak, the marriage will not last long. I don’t agree with the facts that if you really cares and loves someone, you should let them go; but is must be mutual. One way love, does not work, regardless if it’s for wealth. I guess in Korean (many Kdrama show this), mix of status among family is still a fantasy or something out of the ordinary… i guess. I like KDrama a lot, but I am so happy I am not stuck in those drama situation… ehehe

My heart totally broke for YM and MS and wanted to see them get together. WHY did MS and HW get married?? This ruined the drama for me. Skipped all the episodes and went to the end to see how it turned out. I felt so bad for YM, especially at the end when he cries in his car after dropping off MS. It wasn’t the best ending at all although I loved it when MS and HW finally went separate ways and when SY realized she had been so wrong all along.
