Meet Lee Yong Woo

Posted on 03 August 2009 by ay_link

Lee Yong Woo reminds me of Daniel Henney mixed with Oh Ji Ho, at certain angle. But nonetheless, I’d say SBS fashion drama “Style” has chosen its cast correctly. No wonder the ratings are high (episode 1 and 2 aired last weekend, and 17.6% for both days. Considered this a HUGE success, though weekend drama ratings tend to get higher than our regular weekdays’ primetime dramas).

In “Style”, Lee Yong Woo plays as Kim Hye Su’s young hot boyfriend, whom he calls her by ‘Sunbae’. It’s kinda too early to determine the pairing for it, but as of now from what I’ve seen so far, Lee Yong Woo has a direct loveline with Kim Hye Su. However, Ryu Shi Won and Lee Jiah can be the other pair, if only I’m not so confused as to whom the leading lady slot belongs to.

After the SBS very popular weekend drama, “Brilliant Legacy” wrapped up its final episode last weekend, “Style” starring Kim Hye Soo, Ryu Shi Won, Lee Jiah and Lee Yong Woo took its slot. This hot hunk has his own delicate charm when it comes to his sex appeal.  His tall appearance, combined with brown eyes, and an art degree from Korea University of Art in modern dance have seemed to work perfectly for his role as Kim Min Jun – Style Korea (as in “In Style” magazine) very own photographer hunk.

In 2002, Lee Yong Woo received the gold prize awards for Dong-A Dance Competition.  His hard work, plus few dance and choreography lessons have earned him the recognition.  In addition, his resume also adds on activities like modelling, plus certain hobbies like photography, has definitely earned him the spot for this role.

According to the writer of this article, the first time he/she met Lee Yong Woo, certain image came to mind:  “Kim Min Jun, a foreigner from London, who happened to have a free, open-minded way of thinking. Bringing the sense of either straight, or gay, or even bisexual, but without reservation that he can be open to all genders, both males and females. This character is a broad one, yet not destined for an ordinary actor.”

The “Kim Min Jun” in “Style” is not an exaggerated character, said Lee Yong Woo.  Because he has the background as a model/dancer/art student, he was able to pull off just the right expression for his “Style” character.  According to Lee Yong Woo, acting is a challenge, but he is enjoying every bits of it.  He invites his readers to see “Style” and to watch how the fashion industry maneuver differently than any other professions in mind.   “I read books and study the character.  I’d love for you all to watch me play as Kim Min Jun, the photographer and creative designer for “Style Korea” magazine.”

The challenge for Lee Yong Woo is to attract the viewers away from the other three leading actors, as he is indeed still a rookie in the acting world.  “Style” invites us to snoop into a different world. The fashion magazine world consists of its politic, romance and intriguing scandals.  It tells a story of one successful magazine editor-in-chief (played by Kim Hye Soo), her clumsy assistant (played by Lee Jiah), the microbiotic Korean chef from New York (played by Ryu Shi Won), and of course, Lee Yong Woo as Kim Hye Soo’s man, Kim Min Jun.
