What a perfect way to start a new music show! To perform on stage yourself as a host.
Definitely love the arrangement, and how he played it with such great confidence. Like a true musician/composer. Which indeed, he is. What a package… you get a musician, a composer, as the MC himself, on a music show. This is why Yoo Hee Yeol got picked to replace Lee Hana’s Peppermint when she quit the show for MBC “Triple”. And one of the main reasons why I love Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook is because he has the similarity of Yoon Do Hyun – both are musicians and they are for sure best fitted to host a music show. (Maybe this is also why Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook is more attractive compared to Lee Hana’s Peppermint.)

I love it to bits and pieces, and been watching it nonstop tonight.  Because for some reason, I skipped this first episode of Sketchbook, so it took me this long to notice his great talent. One night, I was flipping channels and ended up on KBS World. Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook was on, and it was Episode 5, featuring Yoonha. She answered all his questions with such witty answers, and at the end, she even surprised him with Kara – Yoo Hee Yeol is a big fan of Kara, or so it seems. He was so shocked to see them on stage, and even bashful and flattered when the girls performed a song for him. Too cute!

Yoo Hee-yeol is producer and song-writer who leads “Toy,” a one-man band that originally started out as a duo. Yoo Hee-yeol first appeared in the local pop music scene by winning the grand prize at the 4th Yoo Jae-ha Music Contest held in 1992 with the song “The Moonlight Song.” Yoo is also the producer of many hit albums like the ones by Lee Seung-hwan, Yoon Jong-shin, Lee Sora and Lee Moon-se. Originally, Toy was a duo as which Yoo Hee-yeol performed with Yoon Jeong-oh. However, Yoon Jeong-oh left the band to study overseas and since 1996, the band has been maintained as a one-man band by the sole member Yoo Hee-yeol. The title song of the band’s second official album, “Remember I Was Next to You” sung by Kim Yeon-woo was a big hit making the band’s name known in the pop music world. From then on, Yoo Hee-yeol didn’t sing the songs in his albums. Instead, he invited singers like Kim Yeon-woo, Kim Hyung-joong, Lee Jang-woo, Yoon Jong-shin, Kim Jang-hoon, Jinu and Byeon Jae-won to sing the songs in his albums. In July, 1999, Yoo Hee-yeol published a book of illustrations entitled “In Front of a Familiar House” receiving good response from his fans. The album released under the same title of the book was filled with many instrumental tracks in various genres in which he showed off his talent in musical composition. Emotional melodies, well-organized arrangement and true love stories mix well together in Yoo Hee-yeol’s songs. Besides from music, Yoo Hee-yeol also performed actively as the host of “Yoo Hee-yeol’s Music City,” a radio show that went on the airwaves from 1999 to March in 2001.
