This is the current drama that I’ve been gushing over for the past 2 weeks. After “Assorted Gems” ended, SBS “OB/GYN Doctors” is such a great one to fall into. Let’s take a look at what the drama is all about plus some of their off-camera pictures! :)

Gathered from what I’ve watched and read so far, SBS “OB/GYN Doctors” is the first Korean TV drama that goes deeper into Obstetrics & Gynecology department of Hankuk Hospital. The drama pictures the lives of doctors and patients on a daily basis. The main characters are 3 doctors, OB/GYN doctor played by Jang Seo Hee, Infertility doctor played by Seo Ji Seok, and a pediatrician played by the dreamy, handsome actor (Yes, I’m totally super bias), Go Joo Won. This is the first medical Korean drama that I can absolutely say, “It’s awesome! Highly recommended.”
Though I started late, the drama is so easy to fall in love with. Each plot is well-acted and dramatized almost perfect (despite of the fake plastic, crying, bloody babies). The three main doctors have great chemistry with each other. They know just how to act like a professional, but also it portrays such a glimpse of how doctors live their day to day life.
Jang Seo Hee’s character, Doctor Seo Hye Young is the new OB/GYN Chief. She’s like the perfect doctor you want to deliver your baby with. She once said to a patient who asked her to give up on her Down Syndrome baby, “I can’t do that. I’m responsible to both lives, the mother AND the baby.” Indeed, she saves lives, but could she save her own baby? An unwanted pregnancy, a scandal with an older, married man, a nagging mother who’s always fussy about her house interior… though she has all of those, she’s still the doctor who never makes a mistake when it comes to her patients. Little did she know, one day she is faced with someone who really values the lives of those babies. He cares deeply for her baby inside her stomach, but deep down, he carries a torch for her. He is the pediatrician doctor Lee Sang Shik (played by Go Joo Won).
Now, don’t get me started with Doctor Lee. Boy, he’s such so, very, VERY charming. I can’t picture someone else’s playing him other than Go Joo Won. I even did some fangirly-squee for him during “My Woman” days (see here for yourself).
Doctor Lee Sang Shik has the heart of gold. Truly love children, and of course, he has such a soft spot for babies. He is the new NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) chief that Hankuk Hospital recruited right after or almost at the same time as they picked Hye Young. A smart cookie, handsome, kindhearted, and knows how to handle kids? Oh my. That’s a lot to take on from just one guy. But he is Lee Sang Shik. (Sang Shik means ‘Common Sense’ in Korean). He can be such a nosy when it comes to Hye Young and her pregnancy, but he was indeed the first one to find out about her secret. Such a guardian angel, and hopefully he’ll be more than just a colleague/next-door neighbor to her. We’ll see how their love story enfolds, but for now, I’m just going to root back and squealing silently in complete bliss whenever he comes on screen :P
Hye Young is so blessed with such great, handsome men in her life, including best friend doctor Wang Jae Suk (played by Seo Ji Seok). Now I don’t know about Seo Ji Seok as an actor, but people seem to love him a lot after “Pure 19″? Anyway. He acts like he knows women inside and out. He’s been best-friend with Hye Young since childhood. They went to preschool up to high school together. He has seen a mole on Hye Young’s butt just because they’re that close already. He respects her and knows just what it takes to make her obey him – Hye Young’s Achilles Heel is her over-protective, nosy mother.
In episode 7-8, when Hye Young collapsed and was brought by an ambulance, Sang Shik called Jae Suk. Immediately he rushed over to see her, and later on he was told about her pregnancy. The two men approached Hye Young rather differently. Jae Suk respects Hye Young’s decision not to do the ultrasound, but Sang Shik insists to check just how bad the bleeding is and also to check the condition of her fetus. These two men show just how they carry a great care and love for Hye Young, but don’t you just love how Jae Suk and Sang Shik both stick to their gun when it comes to what’s more important for Hye Young at the present time. These two actors did a marvelous job nonetheless.
Then there’s another side storyline, in addition to these three doctors, one is played by the cutiepie Song Joong Ki – a 2nd year resident in the OB/GYN department, Doctor Ahn Kyung Woo. And his ex-girlfriend Nurse Kim Young Mi (played by Lee Young Eun) who is very kind and sweet. These two belong together, no doubt. (Please let them be together, PD-nim! ^^) Doctor Ahn Kyung Woo comes from an upper-class family. His mother forbids him to date nurse Kim, but apparently in the recent episode (ep 9), the match-maker ahjumma made him sit together with her on an arranged blind date. Little did she know that the two have been dating and broken up.
There’s a lot to say when it comes to these characters I just described above, but truly, “OB/GYN Doctors” is the one drama I’d keep for a long, long time. You’ll have to see it yourself to judge if it is worth to watch or not, but for me, this is it. I’ve found something I always look forward to every Wednesday and Thursday. It might be different than monster-sageuk Chuno, and it’s not as girlfriend-power as Still Marry Me, but so far, OB/GYN Doctors win first place for me. For now.
Behind the scenes pictures:

Song Joong Ki & Lee Young Eun – so cute!

Seo Ji Seok & Jang Seo Hee – being playful together just their characters are.

Song Joong Ki – sex education in front of fanclub? yeap. He did.
They invited 20 fans from his fanclub to be high school students for a scene in episode 8.
Hye Young was asked by a hospital personnel to attend a session for his daughter’s health class in MyungSung High School. Jae Suk is worried about her going alone, so he sent Kyung Woo to go together. In class, Hye Young asked Kyung Woo to perform something for the class – with a wooden display object, he demonstrated how to wear a condom. HAHA. Priceless scene.

Jang Seo Hee’s doodling on… the floor map? O_o?

See the pictures posted on the wall?
They’re apparently taken by a photographer, by the name of Y.Zin (real name Kim Yunjin). The photographer posted a little exhibition of all the pictures taken from the drama, on and off screen pictures.
and lastly…
an awesome OST made by All About K.Will :)

completely agree with you. Great drama…so far. I like the pace at which the romance is going now. But the idea that this drama is supposed to end at 16 eps worries me. How can it end at 16 considering the way it is going now??
