Alex and his ‘On Air’ musical crew had their first opening day yesterday, April 14 (Korea time). There are a few pictures and teasers that enough to make me all jealous. It’ll be nice to see him singing and acting on stage, LIVE performance too since it was simply wonderful to hear him on stage last month @ the Victory concert. My hope is that they have enough training to make this musical a super successful one also, since Alex has very little experience in acting keke… (though looks like he just needs to be himself and let all the charming-ness flow through him… lol.)

“On Air Season 3″ musical will challenge Alex for his first dip in live acting and singing

Yesterday, a few hours before the opening day, all actors of “On Air Season 3″ got together for their first press conference. The interview lasted for about 30 minutes, which they managed to highlight the important parts of Alex’s first musical debut.

Alex said, “In the spring season, men and women are likely to fall in love at least once and it’s fun. Though I’m taking the first lead, I have yet a lot to learn from professionals like Song Yong Jin (as Jo Min Ah; picture above).   It’s 100% self-taught learning experience once I’m on the stage.”

“On Air” Season 3 focused on the love story between the two leading actors, Alex as a radio DJ and his partner, radio PD played by Jo Min Ah. On this one, Alex and Jo Min Ah are expected to play their romance to win the heart of the audience.

This is a pretty lengthy article to read, so hopefully I won’t miss the important stuff.

Musical “Alex”, it fits!

“Alex took on a musical challenge, “On Air Season 3″ -
appears as a wicked, macho man… it was very funny!”

Clazziquai Alex met up with us at the Chungmu Art Hall’s coffee shop around 9 in the morning. A thick white bandage is attached to one of his arm, and it was due to a flu shot. (oh my, now it explains the sniffling and unusual ’sexiness’ from his voice last night *Blue Night’s last show* tee hee…). The intense training and practice must have taken it down to the cast with a cold, and Alex took the last one. He had a big worry as the show was about to start in a few days.

Alex said, “In Clazziquai’s first album, the lyrics and music are nothing like any musicals…” and now, Alex has taken up the challenge to do a musical that runs from April 14 to June 27.

“In Clazziquai performances, there’s the prompt monitor (with lyrics written on the monitor), and as a singer, all I had to do is sing the lyrics….”, he continued, “And now as I’ve been spending too much in front of a computer, my memory seems to have deteriorate…” he laughed.

Yes, he indeed is the same Clazziquai’s Alex, who appeared on MBC Sunday Night’s Star Wedding Variety, “We Got Married”, showing a different side of him.

# Alex in Musical = His mother’s dream

In 2007, Alex had a small part on MBC Every1 drama, “Love Discovery”. To take on a part in a musical, for two months of his preparation was the most challenging one. His love for musicals started from his mother’s passion for musical itself.

“When I lived in Canada, I have watched a number of musicals like, “Nonsense”, “Cats”, and “West Side Story” with my mom. And because of my activities, my mom sometimes asks me, ‘You don’t do musical?’”

As Alex is his own name, “On Air” the musical is using his name, “Alex”. So from now on, for about a month or so, from 10am-2pm, he’ll be the musical “Alex” performing on “On Air Season 3″

Alex said, “It’s so much fun. The charm in musical is doing it right in front of the audience. Somewhat, with the exaggerated gestures, my homework is to make it as natural as possible for people to watch. The fun part is when the audience can hear the live singing, I guess.”

# Alex on “We Got Married” = Love Alone

To get to know Alex in the musical has a lot of similarities in getting to know Alex himself. Because the Alex in musical is also the radio DJ, it overlaps perfectly with Alex himself. The Musical “Alex” whose girlfriend escape to the U.S. and doesn’t come back, are the theme of the story. Wounded in love, “Alex” becomes the radio DJ, meets with PD Jo Min Ah, and their romance blooms.

“The character I play is similar to my personality. Like to be alone for a while… words are expressed in actions… as if he’s trying to shoulder all the macho tendencies… it does sound familiar, right?” (laughs)

Alex confessed that the Alex on “We Got Married” and the “On Air Alex” are a lot closer to his own personalities. In “We Got Married”, he washed Shinae’s feet, cooked for her and sang her songs, as what people would remember him most. But he objected, “Actually, when two people are in love, you could do more than that. Aren’t we supposed to be newlywed? But ‘We Got Married’ is a TV show where we had to act in front of multiple cameras. I don’t think I did an undesirable thing.”

He’s still the same Alex who likes to stop by for some soju around his neighborhood area. And thanks to the popularity of his TV appearance, sometimes we’d have thought that he’d fixed on the same image people know him as. But it’d be stressful to keep it like that when he’s famous already, so his desire is to keep on working as he is before all the fame.

And with the hat and that lil handkerchief (?) on his T-shirt pocket, it does add the element of ‘musical’ in him, haha.. ^^ either way, it’s Alex, and he talks about his upcoming musical debut which will premiere next week, April 14. Pretty interesting stuff, I must say~ he’s up for an interesting journey wayyyy past WGM era and all that.

Alex, “The musical Alex, the same drama”

(AP) Reporter Kim Hee Sun had the opportunity to interview the singer/DJ/MC Alex about his musical debut, “On Air Season 3″, in which Alex will be playing the reverse role from the ‘romantic guy’ to “Alex” the radio DJ.

With only a week away to opening day, April 14, Alex will be on stage as himself, “Alex”, for the 3rd season of “On Air”. Casting in a role very similar to him, and using his own name, Alex will be challenged to put on stage his own character as the singer and radio DJ.

Meeting with Alex on April 7 at Chungmu Art Hall, Alex confessed frankly about his personality. It is indeed double the pressure to play naturally, as it is his job and also to be the ‘Alex’ himself. “I had a lot of fun with the cast, but I also have to be responsible if something were to happen. I had to try to resolve it alone, without the help of others (since he’s playing as himself). Though sometimes it can get tough. A man couldn’t look as clueless and complex as he wants it to be.”

But, despite of the hurdles, he claimed that playing as himself, with such familiarity to his own character, it helps a lot. Though sometimes he misunderstood his own ‘character’ for the musical, it actually wasn’t attended to be like that. In “On Air”, the radio station will be the main background, and Alex will be DJ “Alex” who will have a love story with his radio PD (program director), PD “Kim Sun Jeong”

“Alex” the “On Air radio DJ” had a public breakup with an actress, and after the article went off public, he had to recover all the damage and came back as radio DJ (who then, will be involved with his PD, I guess. The whole “public actress’ breakup – seems like they’re trying to mimic his WGM relationship with you-know-who. HM~ Fishy!)

In real life, Alex is the front singer of Clazziquai, as well as MBC FM4U radio program, “Alex’s Blue Night”, and also the MC for SBS TV show, “Korea’s Cook”. Alex mentioned also that Clazziquai will launch its 4th album both in Japan and Korea, and he has already promoted his solo album in Japan.

Today, he stayed in from 10am to do the musical practice with everyone. So after finishing the radio recording for “Blue Night” around 2 o’clock in the morning, he gets to go home and catch about 3-4 hours per day to sleep.

“I always envy other actors with their full of energy, but I learned a lot and having so much fun learning about myself and how to ge a great performer.” “Nowadays, if I can go home after practice, and try to catch a few wink that’ll be great. But if not, I can just use a sleeping back, and won’t be bothered.” he laughed. “Would I keep doing the musical? Well, let’s see how I do at the end of the show before we get technical here (laughs). I have my voice and I still need to work, so I still want to try my best.”

“On Air Season 3″, Are you ready to feel that moment of love?

Since the last two season of this musical production, “On Air” was a total success, its return, Season 3 has been anticipated much by the audience also.

On April 14, Alex and the staff production of “On Air” will begin its season. And the poster’s concept this time is, “love overflowes on the radio” as this romantic musical prepares for its third season.

“On Air Season 3″ will show a different kind of romantic play, as it will have this radio DJ (Alex), telling stories to his listeners (just like DJ Algoon on “Blue Night”, eh?), in which he’ll combine a musical expression with element of storytelling to his listeners. Looks like Alex will do just what he’s been doing in “Blue Night” but on a bigger stage and audience staring at him *lol* (Seriously, this sounds pretty simple and cheesy to me, but wth, it’s ALEX! lol~)

From the poster we can see, DJ Alex, using the headphones, with PD Kim Sun Jeong (played by Jo Min Ah), with both of their expressions telling us a love story is bound to be shared and produced among them. Meanwhile, “On Air Season 3″ poster is ready to attract the romantic heart of its audience, targetting both young men and women.

I’m not that familiar with this girl, Jo Mina, former member of Jewelry (Seo In Young’s Jewelry), so if you got any scoop on her, as far as how old she is, if she’s single or not, and why she becomes ‘former’ member of Jewelry, please do tell~ ^_^

This Season 3 will come back on stage next month, and as we know, Alex has been casted as the main lead. Opening on April 14, at Blue Chungmu Art Hall in Seoul.
