After CBS canceling my fave American show, “Three Rivers”, I’ve wondered if Daniel Henney would go back to Korean TV industry.  Looks like the Korean-American model/actor Daniel Henney will make his first appearance on O’live, cable TV reality show starting next month!

Daniel Henney will make his first appearance on a reality show, “Daniel Henney Goes to Outback”, next month on April 2, airing on local cable network O’live.

Yesterday, the model-turn-actor attended the press conference for the show, and he said that reality show will be different than appearing in dramas. Being in a reality show feels harder because it doesn’t have a fixed ’script’ as to what he needs to say, unlike acting in a drama. “But still, it was interesting work experience.”

“Daniel Henney Goes to Outback” is an adventure reality show about Daniel Henney and Park Seong Woo’s journey in western Australia. Park Seong Woo is the winner of the latest cooking contest dubbed “It Chef”, which was hosted by the global restaurant chain, Outback Steakhouse. Both have traveled there to reinvent the restaurant’s New Year’s limited menu. The production crew plan to return to Australia to prepare for the show’s next season.

This is a sad, sad news for me :( can’t imagine how disappointed Daniel Henney and all the cast of “Three Rivers”.  CBS, you fail. I thought the series is good and solid, but ratings speak differently.

Daniel Henney’s “Three Rivers” is canceled, according to CBS

Was the warmth of the drama not enough to overcome its low ratings? The cold reality of television viewership ratings was harsh enough to cut short the show starring attractive actors Alex O’Loughlin and Daniel Henney. With critics calling the show dull and viewers not tuning in to watch, CBS finally announced last weekend that it was cancelling the show “Three Rivers”. According to an overseas media outlet, a source claimed that the show has been put on halt, but with no clear prospects as to whether it will air again in the future. CBS’s announcement virtually means a cancellation of the show.

“Three Rivers”, which premiered on October 14, is a show about the lives of organ donors at a Pennsylvania transplant hospital that drew much publicity with the casting of Korean-American actor Daniel Henney as a pancreas transplant surgeon. But the show received little attention after the pilot episode aired and had seen its ratings decline ever since. Of the 13 episodes that have already been produced so far, only eight have aired on TV. CBS has asked the show’s producers to finish production but is making no guarantees about airing the remaining episodes. The current time slot for “Three Rivers” will be replaced by re-runs of other successful shows including the popular spin-off series “NCIS: L.A.”, “Cold Case” and “Criminal Minds”.

As the hunky star of films, television dramas and commercials, Daniel Henney is an icon in Korea and beyond. Now he scrubs into a new role, playing a smooth-talking surgical resident in the American TV series Three Rivers.
Daniel Henney, who wooed a nation as the charming American physician in Korea’s 2005 TV phenomenon My Lovely Kim Sam Soon, is playing doctor once again — this time in Hollywood.

The Michigan-born model-turned-actor makes his American small screen debut as a womanizing surgical intern on CBS’ organ transplant drama Three Rivers, which premiered on Oct. 4. He chats with CNNGo about his new life overseas.

CNNGo: You lived in Korea for six years. Why’d you decide to move back to the States?

Daniel Henney: Everything in Korea happened so fast and was so surreal. I started in a small role on a sitcom, and before I knew it, I was doing films and I don’t know — everything was happening in the moment and I didn’t have time to think about the next month. But in the back of my mind, I always kind of hoped I would come back here. I wanted my family [who lives in Michigan] to see me in the theater. For me, that’s really rewarding.

CNNGo: Your first U.S. role was playing bad-guy Agent Zero in the summer blockbuster X-Men Origins: Wolverine. What was it like working with actor Hugh Jackman?

Daniel Henney: He’s the nicest guy I’ve ever met, the epitome of all that is good about big-time stars. He restored my faith that someone can reach the top of their game and still be a humble guy to the core. Each week, he’d spend $4,000 on lottery tickets for the whole crew. He’d go around the set, asking people, “Did you win?” He created a sense of camaraderie. I have a man-crush on Hugh, it’s ridiculous.

CNNGo: Now you’re in a show about organ transplants. How did you prepare for the role?

Daniel Henney: I sat through a heart transplant operation. A 44-year-old man had been on the waiting list for a heart and was about two weeks away from dying. Finally, they called him while he was eating breakfast one morning, saying, “We have a heart for you.” A 22-year-old kid had overdosed on heroine.

I watched everything. I watched them pry open his chest and literally rip his heart out and put the new heart in. It was the most incredible experience.

CNNGo: What’s your goal in Hollywood?

Daniel Henney: I want to establish a role model for young Asian Americans to look up to and be proud of. For me, it’s just about being a good actor. As far as being a sex symbol, I have no interest in that.

CNNGo: Are you currently dating anyone?

Henney: No, I wish I was. I think I’m gonna start. I don’t know how.

CNNGo: What do you look for in a woman?

Henney: Someone with a good sense of humor, who’s game to go out and do anything, who doesn’t mind just hanging out and drinking a beer. She has to be laidback if she’s going to date someone with a job like mine.

CNNGo: Do you consider yourself a Korean actor or an American actor?

Henney: I’m definitely a Korean actor until the day I die. Korea gave me my career. Korea is where I made my mistakes, where I had my highs, my lows. It’s where I learned the ropes. If it wasn’t for Korea, I wouldn’t be here

Thanks to “My Father“, Daniel Henney got the role in “X-men: Wolverine” without audition.

In Vogue May 2009 issue, Daniel Henney talks about his biggest return to Hollywood and his experience having to work with Hugh Jackman.  Daniel Henney told Vogue that Hugh Jackman thanked him for accepting the role. “He (Hugh Jackman) went to Korea in 2002, and wore the red uniform to cheer for Korea during World Cup.  From all the countries in Asia, Korea stands out to him.”  (that explains the I ♥ Korea T-shirt Hugh Jackman wore at the press conference. He really does love Korea ^^)

He continues, “For me to meet a big Hollywood star with such a sturdy, great-built body like Hugh Jackman, it makes me envious. I want to build a strong and healthy body, but at the same time, even though I want to gain weight, I can’t, so a personal nutritionist is going to help me plan my meals.”

Meanwhile, Daniel Henney has started the “X-Men: Wolverine” movie promotion in South Korea, which will open in theatres (in Korea) by the end of the month.

Hugh Jackman & Daniel Henney on the next “Gold Miss” date

Airing next weekend, April 19 on the SBS Good Sunday Part 2 “Here Comes Gold Miss”, Daniel Henney and Hugh Jackman along with the ladies of the show: 양정아, 진재영, 신봉선 (Yang Jeong Ah, Jin Jae Young, Shin Bong Seon) met up at a movie theatre.

Prior to the meeting, these “Gold Miss” members have been practicing their English. And the lucky ladies chosen are Yang Jeong Ah, Jin Jae Young and Shin Bong Seon. With only two handsome stars, Henney and Jackman, only two ladies are able to be on their one-on-one date with them. But it is said that these three ladies met first to prepare their English introduction before the show.

When the two actors appeared, both wearing a nice black suit, the ladies were all excited. Hugh Jackman said his greetings, “Hello”, to greet the members, then the three ladies were ready to jump ahead to start their introduction. The atmosphere was friendly and they had quite a great time.

Since Hugh Jackman is a musical actor also, he can sing and dance, and also show off his piano skills to the members on the set. One of the “Gold Miss” ladies, Jil Sera and Daniel Henney also performed a nice waltz.

On the recording, Hugh Jackman said, “I have never participated in this show. But it was really a funny experience, especially the very brave, Gold Miss and their sense of admiration was overbearing. I’m not really that great of a catch…” as he smiled.

The recording went smoothly without a hitch, and they couldn’t stop laughing and cheering throughout the show. This episode with Daniel Henney and Hugh Jackman will be airing next week, April 19 on at 6:50 PM on SBS ‘Good Sunday’ Part 2 Here Comes Gold Miss/Miss Gold’s Coming.

The news intensity of their coverage is INSANE, I tell ya…
So many picturesssss on the net… which is understandable since it’s Henney and Jackman, but really, if I must count them all one by one, there are probably about 4 million pictures of them :P

On April 10, actors Hugh Jackman and Daniel Henney met up at 7pm in Gwanghamun, Seoul Cheonggye Square Plaza. They had a red carpet greetings, fansigning and an evening conference of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” (2009). The movie will be released in Korea first on April 30 before the rest of the world. In the U.S., it’ll premiere the following month on May 11.

Hugh Jackman arrived a day before in Incheon International Airport, and the next day, his schedule is as followed, April 10 Highlights, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. start screening, press conference, and appointed as Goodwill Ambassador for Seoul around 2 pm.

“X-Men’ Stars Visit Seoul”

“X-Men Origins: Wolverine” stars Hugh Jackman and Daniel Henney fueled up the already escalating temperature in Seoul, Friday, as they spoke to the South Korean press and fans, mixing in fluent Korean sentences.

Jackman hosted a special event featuring an extended 20-minute trailer of the latest “X-Men” franchise in Daehan Theater, Chungmuro. “Anyeonghaseyo,” he greeted reporters, and continued impressively in Korean, “Thank you for coming, I hope you enjoy `Wolverine.’ Seoul is awesome.”

The media buzz continued at the Korea House next door, where Henney joined the Australian superstar for a press conference. Jackman, who was officially appointed as a goodwill ambassador for Seoul the same day, chose the traditional venue himself. The “Australia” star said his father had worked in Korea for nearly 20 years, and was “the greatest ambassador for Korea.

“When I first visited three years ago, I felt like I knew Korea very well,” he said, adding that he didn’t take back many souvenir gifts during his 2006 visit with “X-Men: The Last Stand” because he already owned most of what a typical shop here had to offer. His father would bring home Korean gifts, and his sister would strut around the house in “hanbok” (traditional dress). Jackman himself wore a Red Devils or South Korean football fan shirt. Australia and Korea were both led by Dutch coach Gus Hiddink, and the actor said Korea would be the only non-Australian football team he’d cheer for.

“I understood what my father loved about the (Korean) people so much… You get a quick sense here of the hospitality, the generosity and the warmth,” he said. “I was quite insistent that we came here (to promote `Wolverine’), not only because of Daniel… It’s a very special day for me,” he said. “To do a film in Korea is something I’d love to do some day, and my father would be on the set watching… He’d be the first to queue and buy a ticket.”

Henney, on the other hand, made a counter-cultural route to fame. The Korean-American actor rose to stardom in Korea and other Asian countries through romantic TV roles, and received critical acclaim for the film “My Father.” “Wolverine” marks a homecoming debut for the Michigan native.

“I play the role of Agent Zero, a sniper. He’s not the usual gentle, romantic character I played and is very tough, cold-hearted and masculine,” the “Samsooni” star said, speaking in fluent Korean. The 29-year-old continued in English, saying that his character, like Jackman’s description of Wolverine, “has anger management issues.”

Jackman introduced Wolverine as “one of the first antiheros” in comic book history, and said he likes him because “he does whatever he wants.” The prequel to the “X-Men” franchise, the American government finds use of Wolverine’s innate superpowers and enhances them with groundbreaking medical technology. When they attempt to eradicate his memory and use him as a weapon, however, Wolverine violently resists, and other mutants including Agent Zero try to stop him.

On playing a villain in a major Hollywood picture, which is often the case for actors of a minority race, Henney said he was able to separate Agent Zero from other “typical Asian” roles. He explained that his character was neither good nor bad, and like the other mutants, struggles within himself. Nevertheless, Henney said he faces limits due to language and looks in both Korea and the United States.

He wants to challenge himself here with more diverse roles, rather than playing another charming foreigner. “I always consider myself a Korean actor,” said the former model in Korean, and hopes to return as often as possible for local TV or film projects.

“Acting with Hugh (Jackman) was a really an amazing experience,” he said. “I learned a ton from him, in terms of acting and lifestyle too. This guy is the real deal,” he said, and turned to his co-star to say, “I’m not trying to flatter you.”

One reporter was curious how, at 40, Jackman sculpted muscles for the superhero role ― and in particular for a nude scene he pulled off himself (He threw the venue into a rumble of laughter when he said he had his private parts “in a bag” ― quite literally; the editor had to cut scenes exposing his private area and gave the clips to him in a bag).

The actor answered, “hard training and Korean barbeque.” He wanted a “lean, veiny, animalistic look.” He followed the advice of a body builder, followed a high-protein diet where he consumed meat every three hours. “I wasn’t joking about the Korean barbeque,” he said, explaining that he frequents a Korean restaurant in Soho, New York. “Jjang-i-eyo,” he said, expressing his enthusiasm for the local dish.

Afterward, the two stars participated on a local variety show, where they “dated” female celebrities, which is due to air on SBS, April 19. In the evening, Cheonggye Plaza in downtown Seoul exploded with thousands of fans that gathered for one of the largest ever red carpet events. Jackman and Henney greeted fans and took part of a hand printing ceremony.
