This is the one movie I can’t wait to watch! :) premieres next month in Korea – or to be exact April 29! Sigh, gotta wait ’till it shows up on DVD. Hwang Jung Min, FTW.

Hwang Jung Min receives praises for his new role as blind swordsman

Best actor Hwang Jung Min has received a lot of praises for his acting as the blind swordsman in his upcoming brand new movie “Blades of Blood” (English title).

In the movie, he appears as this untidy, blind swordsman with insightful perceptions, ‘goofy’ with jokes but with excellent martial skills. His character befriends with Cha Seung Won’s character and they both aims to prevent rebellions by revealing the hidden sword in his cane. Hwang Jung Min’s character is the first blind fighter in Korean film.

Though it’s not easy to act as a blind man, as well as an excellent warrior, Hwang Jung Min prepares for his role quite well. In prepping for this role, he learned how to live as a blind person by going to a blind peoples’ school, and learned every hand movement and muscle in the face of blind peoples. To act as a blind man, he worked hard and spent 3 times more than he did to prepare for the martial scenes. He also have been living with his eyes closed to get used to his role. (Wow! just wow. He’s THE man!!)

Anticipate this new movie next month, premiering on theaters in Korea April 29th.

Remember Baek Sung Hyun from “That Fool”? He’s also a big fan of Hwang Jung Min, and the two actors met together again for the new movie, “Like the Moon Escaping From Clouds”. Here are some pictures from the press conference.

Hwang Jung Min & Baek Sung Hyun reunited

On March 22, the two actors attended the press conference for new movie, “Like the Moon Escaping From Clouds” directed by the “King & Clown” director, Lee Joon Ik, starring Cha Seung Won, Hwang Jung Min, Han Ji Hye and Baek Sung Hyun.

Like the Moon Escaping From the Clouds is being adapted into an action film from a three-book Korean manga series by Park Heung Yong. It was awarded the Republic of Korea Cartoon Culture Literary Prize by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and in 2005, translated into English by Steven D. Capener. The story is set at the end of the 16th century’s Joseon Dynasty, following Japan’s invasion of Korea.

Cha Seung Won is cast as the protagonist, Lee Mong Hak, who dreams of overthrowing the incompetent politicial regime and starting a world revolution. He leads a peasant rebellion against societal injustice and for equality. Mong Hak excels in the art of fighting to the extent that he is called Joseon’s best butcher. Cha Seung Won is currently training in swordsmanship, horseback riding, and action scenes. Uhm Tae Woong was initially cast as this character.

Hwang Jung Min is in the role of Hwang Jung Hak, a legendary blind swordsman who faces off against Lee Mong Hak. Although Jung Hak can’t physically see, he has acute insight. Upon meeting Gyun Ja (Baek Sung Hyun) who is distressed about how to get revenge, Jung Hak teaches him martial arts as they chase after Mong Hak. Director Lee Jun Ik said that the screenplay was created with Hwang Jung Min in mind for this character.

Baek Sung Hyun has been cast as Gyun Ja. As the son of a concubine, he harbors resentment against the world due to his lesser status. With the help of Hwang Jung Hak, he chases after Lee Mong Hak to avenge his father’s murder. Ryu Seung Beom was originally cast in this role; however, he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts after this production was delayed.

Han Ji Hye will play Baek Ji, a gisaeng and Lee Mong Hak’s longtime lover. When she is left behind by Mong Hak, she goes off to search for him. Lee Mong Hak and Gyun Ja fight for her love. In preparation for her first sageuk, Han is practising to play the gayageum and sing Korean poems.

The film [finally] goes into production at the end of this month and is expected to hit theaters in the first half of 2010.

“We” are singing for charity

Jang Dong-gun said a song he recorded with five other actors, titled “WE,” would soon be released as a CD single. Under the name Actors Choice, Jang, Kim Seung-woo, Hwang Jeong-min, Kong Hyeong-jin, Ji Jin-hee, and Lee Ha-na originally recorded the song, written by popular composer Joo Young-hoon, for an online game. They will donate the profits to charity.

The music video will be available for viewing tomorrow on various music sites and on the official Web page for the project.

Lee Hana is known for her vocal and she can play guitar too. Hwang Jung Min is a musical actor, so no doubt about his voice. No wonder he’s singing first :p Kim Seung Woo can’t seem to sing – he yells at practice lol. Ji Jin Hee seems a bit shy. And oh, don’t even get me started on how HOT Jang Dong Gun looked! O my~! yummylicious indeed in specs~ *fangirling~*

What do you think of the song itself?

I kinda like “I LOVE ASIA” better – when Jackie Chan came by and did a collab along with JYP.

Hwang Jung Min reveals about how he proposed to his wife

On MBC talk show, “Yu Jae Seok Kim Won Hee’s Come To Play” on November 30, Hwang Jung Min and Park Gun Hyung appeared as guest-stars. Hwang Jung Min revealed that he has known his wife for about 10 years, and they got married in 2004. “The proposal was nothing special,” he said,”there was a lot of alcohol that night, and after I asked her to marry me, I slept all through the night with my manager.”

Then he continued, “Since a wedding is supposed to be a once in a lifetime deal, I wanted to do a traditional wedding, but then she wanted to wear a wedding dress, so we cancelled the traditional wedding.”

Through Hwang Jung Min’s appearance together with Park Gun Hyung and Kim Jae Dong, they all were having a great time on “Come to play”. When Hwang Jung Min was asked, what are the three most unforgettable events in his life, he mentioned being casted in the movie “Waikiki Brothers”, his first baby was born on September 5, and also when he got married to his wife. Awwww… how sweeettt.
