Though he is the quiet one among A.N.JELL, yet noone can deny that he has the ability to capture many girls’ heart just by being there for her with his gentlemness…

My name is Jung Yong-hwa. I had it made for me at one of the places where they read your fate. It means that the face looks friendly.
I was born on June 22, 1989 in the Yeoksam district of Seoul. But I consider myself from Busan because I moved there when I was two and lived there till I graduated from high school.
My family is composed of my parents and a brother older than me by four years. Every member of my family is of the so-called timid A blood type.
After coming to Seoul, I put in a lot of effort to fix my Busan dialect. My friends back in Busan who saw the first episode of my drama called me and said that I use standard Korean now. Haha.
The scene where I say, “Come sit here. I’ve made some warm tea,” is what I acted in auditioning for my part in “Minamishineyo”. My acting isn’t good but I think the director gave me good marks for the fact that I know how to play the guitar and am part of a band. During the audition, I also sang our song “Now or Never” from our group’s Japanese single.
Since it was my first time acting I think the writers were also quite worried so they called me to the side separately and explained my character to me. They also asked me to think about how to express Kang Shin-woo’s character without making him seem too cheesy. I tried my best but I think I still ended up expressing him a bit over the top.
With Park Shin-hye who played Go Mi-nam, I’ve become friends with her but I got a lot of help because there were a lot of scenes we were in together. She was always dressed as a guy in the drama though so at one point, I would be a bit surprised when she would dress as the female she is.
Regarding Jang Keun-suk who played Hwang Tae-kyung, I was initially very worried because I thought he would be scary. Haha. But he wasn’t at all, and I’m very thankful that he acted like the eldest that he is, letting us enjoy ourselves when we should but also taking charge at the right times.
Lee Hong-ki, who played Jeremy in the drama is managed by the same agency as mine so we had been pretty good friends even before we went into shoot. A photograph of him sleeping while lying on my legs at the airport was posted on the website but that’s because we’re that close and he was tired. We also had to wait for quite a while.
A video of me acting all giddy was posted on the Internet recently. A friend of mine took that video on his cellphone while we were in the bus to go on a trip to Jeju island as juniors in high school. I say, “Stop shooting me” but I was just playing around — I had asked him to shoot the video. I think it’s good in that people will see the real me rather than as my character Kang Shin-woo.
My band’s name C.N.BLUE stands for Code Name Blue. Our agency put up prize money for the person who comes up with the best name. Our band’s goal is to become the best in Asia and to hopefully bring changes to the Korean music industry which has been see less bands.
In the band, I’m the oldest. Jong-hyun, who along with me is a vocal and plays the guitar, is manly but has an naive side to him, our youngest member and drummer Min-hyuk looks like a baby but he’s good at cleaning up. Oh, we never make him clean up though. (laugh) Our new bassist Jung-shin is the same age as Min-hyuk but he’s good at taking care of the band. And more than anything, everyone really likes music.
My band members showed their support for my acting by watching every episode of “Minamishineyo”. They even carried my bags for me when I returned from shooting an episode in Japan. Haha.
I don’t favor one music genre over another.In the case of bands, I like Bon Jovi’s brisk style of singing and the voices of Placebo and The Calling. I’m also very interested in R&B and hip-hop. That’s why I sometimes try following rap. Dancing? I want to be good at it but it’s difficult. I think it’s the most difficult.

He’s the calm, rational, gentle one. His guitarist skill and his voice are incomparable. Though he’s not the leader of the group, he does carry that charismatic, gentle, ‘angelic’ side for Go Mi Nam in popular idol drama, “You’re Beautiful”

A look into Jung Yong-hwa’s character from TV series “Minamishineyo”

Guitarist of Korea’s most popular group A.N.JELL. The one who owns the legend of winning a scuffle against 17 guys during high school. The Shin-woo who appears out of nowhere when something happens to Go Mi-nam. This guy displayed his instinctive and genius wooing skills from the very first moment he met Mi-nam, saying “You… [Shin-woo lays a hand on Mi-nam's shoulder, looks her up and down quietly yet intently, flashes his killer smile and says] are Go Mi-nam?”

Shin-woo’s mental age surpasses that of leader Hwang Tae-kyung’s by about 20 years and is extremely considerate. When Mi-nam, who pretends to be a guy in the beginning of “Minamishineyo”, is stuck in the men’s changing room, Shin-woo helps her leave by placing a towel lightly over her head saying, “I can’t wash up if you’re here”. And rather than asking her out on a date directly, he will say, “Thank you for coming with me. I had really wanted to eat the food here.” But all the indirectness and concealing of emotions has only made his presence become less of a concern for Mi-nam. He will speak to himself while holding a gift for Mi-nam in his hands after she leaves him to take care of Tae-kyung, and speak to the wall after Tae-kyung looks after Mi-nam all night when she becomes sick.

Of course, like he says, it is for “the well-being of the group and to put Mi-nam’s mind at peace” but he himself soon regrets it. What good is it trying to appeal to her with lines such as “Someone who will like you no matter what? Right here. Whatever you do, I will always applaud you, praise you and smile for you. I make a pretty good fan, right?” The response he gets will be “You’re very warm-hearted, like the person who raised me,” meaning that Mi-nam associates him with the nun at church who raised her rather than seeing him as a real man. So his act of shouting out “This is my woman. The woman I had not been able to speak of!” while trying to stop Mi-nam from exposing her identity in front of reporters, is quite pitiful, even if he is the Shin-woo that the female viewers so dote on. So Kang Shin-woo, call me if you become disgruntled.
