se7en’s first press conference in U.S.

ay_link May 7th, 2008

As y’all know, last week, SE7EN held his album preview party at a popular club in Hollywood, The Highlands, where he performed three songs, including his first single, “Girls.” The 12-songs album is set to be released this summer, possibly on July 7th (7/7). I found an article of what they talked about at the press conference. This is the brief summary of it and below, I’ll post the video clip so you guys can hear him talking in English =) which I think he did such a great job, and he has that much confidence to respond back to all the questions.

How do you feel about the album preview?
▲ I’m very excited and looking forward to it, since this will be my first party to celebrate my first U.S. album. There will be three songs in the preview party which are, “You got me now” featuring Three 6 Mafia, “Money Can’t Buy Me Love” composed by Teddy 1TYM, and “Girls.”

What would be the most difficult part of the album preparation?
▲ The hardest one would be learning the English language, and to actually learn the meaning of the lyrics. It’s very time consuming to study but I had fun.

What do you think about the whole experience in the U.S.?
▲ Frankly, to me, the burden is bigger than the presidential election. The feeling is more now than five years ago when I first debuted. I learned a lot about music in the United States and as I live here (through experience). I felt a lot growing up that there are a lot of prejudice here in the States, and I would like to try to eliminate the prejudice against Asian singers. I hope to set up a good example for other Asian singers.

Is it important to study the language and why?
▲ Actually, since I am a singer, language is not really a big obstacle. Singers can actually ’speak’ to people through their music, because I think music can pass through the language barrier. But if you exceed that barrier and learn the language, it would be much better for the singer to send his message over. I’ve been learning English intensively (about 3-4 hours a day) for the past 4-5 months.

se7en - can’t buy me love

Haha.. finally found this clip.
Been searching for it high and low ;p and I thought this is the title of the last song he sang last night, LOL. Silly me.

OK, the audio doesn’t do justice, but he sounded much much better live, of course with all the screaming and noise. Eekz. But I thought this song is pretty solid, and more ’smooth’ - se7en’s style of course.
Oh just a bit additional tidbits from what I wrote last night, se7en stayed till 2:20am last night. So they were kinda mingled around and dancing a bit until he got pretty tired and left, I guess.

Finally, the day is over. Saw Se7en da man himself, and up-close he looked EXACTLY the same as what I saw from his clip performances, music videos or pictures.

Got there around 9, and lined-up at the VIP lane, and around 10, we finally stepped inside to the venue - The Highlands @ Hollywood and Highlands (near Kodak Theatre, Hollywood). The place looked smaller than the website but it was nice since we got our own VIP reserved table.

Around 11:20′ish, the man showed up, but he didn’t perform until around 12′ish.

Low point of the night was when someone knocked over the orange juice bottle and spilled it over my pants! arrgggh. It was just right before Se7en showed up, so obviously I missed the first few seconds coz I was busy trying to get some tissues and wiped my pants, and shoes. *sigh*

O well, but I got to see him perform his first song, then the second one (didn’t quite catch the title), but it was written by Teddy from 1TYM. The song itself was pretty tight. I liked.
His first single however though, wasn’t as good as I thought. It’s called “Girls” and one of the verse goes something like this, “I like them girls girls… I like them girls girls…” WTH? LOL. Soooo lameeeee.
But at least his English was quite good. I could understand him clearly when he talked, but not really when he sings this “Girls” song.

Now about his U.S. debut as we all knew from couple months ago. He spent quite some time here in the U.S. polishing and preparing for his debut. RQM (Red Queen Media) apparently is a new entertainment company here in US, owned by (obviously) Korean young enterpreneurs. Check out their site
